2014 was an epic year in Yorkshire’s history.  Not only was this great and gorgeous land the recipient of a host of heavy-weight tourism awards, it also hosted the biggest sporting event in the world.  Said by some to be the grandest grand depart in the history of Le Tour de France!

So what of 2015?  What delights does Yorkshire have in store for us this year?  Actually, quite a lot.  There are thousands of fun family events happening across the region this year.  We’ve cherry picked just a few – enough I think to persuade you to book a little trip to God’s own country this year…

#01 Tour de Yorkshire | 1-3 May

Tour De Yorkshire

Following on from last year’s phenomenal success, and building on the back of a tidal wave of interest in cycling in the UK, Yorkshire is hosting the first ever Tour de Yorkshire in May of this year.  This international cycling race is expected to become a flagship cycling event, and all cycling enthusiast will be flocking to Yorkshire once again to watch the riders tackle some of Yorkshire’s most punishing routes.  Full details can be found on the official website

#02 It’s showtime!

Flower Show Harrogate

You don’t have to be a gardening enthusiast to enjoy one of the country’s grandest flower shows.  Harrogate’s annual Spring & Autumn Flower Show is open to one and all and really has something to entertain everyone, from the kiddywinkles to the adults.  Just some of the fabulous shows and events hosted at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate in 2015.  And of course don’t forget the iconic Great Yorkshire Show itself orthe countless other Country Shows and Fairs happening throughout the year!

#03 Sensational seasons

The Old School - stunning views of Swaledale

You haven’t lived if you haven’t seen the meadows of Swaledale transform with wild flowers every Spring.  And every year, around the start of summer until early Autumn, the heather moorland in the North York Moors turns a stunning shade of purple.  For miles all the eye can see are hills and valleys covered in a soft purple haze. It’s really quite beautiful, and worth making the trip to see.

#04 Festival frolics

Yorkshire plays host to lots of fantastic festivals throughout the year including the excellent Swaledale Music Festival, the uber cool Burton & Agnes Blues Festival and the super-family friendly Galtres Festival in the North York Moors.  There are way too many to mention, but rest assured whatever time of year you visit, there will be a festival happening somewhere in Yorkshire.

#06 Landscape pick & mix


The beauty of Yorkshire is that there is such a huge variation in the landscapes here.  Fabulous city-scapes in Leeds, York, Sheffield & Hull as well as dramatic scenery in the Dales and stunning coastlines to the east.  Stay for a few nights in the Moors before taking in some sea air at Sandsend.  Or head for cream tea in Bettys Harrogate before venturing out for a walk in gorgeous Nidderdale.
