Booking a large celebration property is a great way to mark a special event in style. Whether it’s for a birthday or an anniversary you are guaranteed a celebration to remember.
It is important however to think about who will be coming and meeting the needs of your guests.
Here are our 10 tips for booking a large celebration property:
#01 Location, location, location
Think about the location that works best for you and your guests. Do you want to be away from it all in the middle of nowhere or be close to local amenities and activities? It’s no good arranging somewhere remote if everyone wants to walk to pubs, shops and cafes.
It’s also a good idea to think about where guests will be coming from and transport links available. If you have some guests coming from Scotland and some coming from London then try and pick somewhere between the two to keep everyone happy.
Make sure you do remember to give everyone the address, any special directions (particularly where private country roads are concerned) and parking directions!
#02 Accessible for all
If you are arranging a gathering with extended family then give some thought to your older guests. They may not be able to manage stairs so it’s a good idea to get somewhere with at least one downstairs bedroom with a walk-in en-suite shower.
Check out the properties that are suitable for guests with reduced mobility and you should find a selection of properties that fit the bill.
#03 Keep children happy
If there will be children coming along to the property then make sure there are facilities for them. Whether it’s a large garden where they can have a game of football or a separate snug where they can play on an x-box, happy children will generally mean happy adults.
Many larger celebration properties come with fully stocked games rooms to keep kids of all ages occupied for hours at a time.
Check that if you are taking toddlers and babies that the celebration property is child-friendly and that things like cots and high chairs can be provided.
#04 Bathrooms for everyone
I always think that one of the most crucial things to look at (particularly in larger holiday cottages) is how many bathrooms there are. Make sure there is a mixture of baths and showers and ideally you want the same number of bathrooms to bedrooms.
If all the bedrooms are high quality with an en-suite bathrooms there are no arguments about who gets the best one.
A break in a holiday cottage is a real treat and people love a touch of luxury. Monsoon showers, wet rooms and roll top baths are guaranteed to impress even the pickiest of guests!
#05 Plan your food and drink
Planning in advance is very important to make sure a break goes smoothly – especially when there is a lot of people involved. One of the most crucial things to think about is what everyone will eat and when you are there (no-one wants to run out of beer, crisps and prosecco).
Can you arrange for a local supermarket to make a delivery for you or will everyone be given some items to bring? You could arrange a meal out one evening at a local pub or restaurant or plan a picnic lunch (if the weather permits).
One great option to try is Born and Bred Yorkshire Holiday Boxes who will deliver a recipe along with all the local ingredients you need to whip up something delicious (they can even put together a picnic box for you too).
#06 Treat yourself (well it is a special occasion)
It’s a special occasion so treat yourself with a wow-factor luxury property. Whether it’s a fabulous country estate (where you can be Lord or Lady of the Manor), a hot tub with stunning views or a private cinema room, the right property will really elevate your holiday.
This is your special event so think about what you really want. Organising a private chef to whip up a special meal means you can enjoy a fabulous meal in the comfort of your holiday home….and no one has to cook (or wash up).
#07 Arrange an activity
There are plenty of events and activities you can try in Yorkshire. You could organise a trip on a steam train, a fabulous spa day, dinner at a Michelin Star restaurant or even just a scenic country walk.
For something a bit different how about an Alpaca Trek though Nidderdale, a Segway journey through Dalby Forest or a farm activity in Masham.
You could even learn to cook some fancy patisserie at Bettys!
#08 Check the security deposit
It is important to check when booking your property whether a security deposit is payable. If you are organising a hen weekend or adults-only gathering it is likely you will need to mention this when booking and a higher than normal deposit could be charged.
You should always treat the property with care (even after a few glasses of wine) – after all you want to ensure you get your whole security deposit back.
You will usually be asked to pay the deposit directly to the property owner so make sure you are able to do this a few days before you travel. As long as everything is OK with the property you will get this back in full within a few days of your return.
#09 Space for everyone
However close you are to family and friends, no-one wants to feel on top of each other. People tend to like their own space so make sure there are a selection of spacious reception rooms available where people can spread out and relax.
Kitchen’s tend to be a social gathering point so having a large kitchen / diner is always nice to have in a celebration holiday home. There should be at least one reception room where everyone can gather together and if you are planning a big family meal make sure there is enough room for everyone to sit together at the dining table.
Outside space is also important too (especially in summer time) – you could arrange some family games, a barbeque or just sit outside for a catch up.
#10 Enjoy yourself!
Once you have decided on your guests and booked the perfect property, the most important thing is to enjoy yourself! This is your special celebration so relax and make the most of it.
After all – the best thing about a break with extended family and friends is getting to see your nearest and dearest.
Try not to stress about little details too much and you will all have a fantastic time at your celebration property!
