Wrapping up warm for a scenic countryside walking, cuddling up in front of a roaring log fire. Winter is the perfect time of year for a cosy cottage break with the person you love. Take a look at these romantic Yorkshire cottages and start planning your next short break.

Ten holiday cottages for a romantic winter escape

1. Ivy Cottage, Great Broughton

Ivy Cottage

This elegant cottage is the perfect grown-up retreat with a great village location in the North York Moors, a cosy AGA wood-burner and several good pubs within walking distance. All the ingredients you need for a gorgeous romantic break in Yorkshire.

What our guests say: "Ivy Cottage is perfect. It is comfortable, clean and cosy and has every convenience you need for a wonderful stay."

2. Little Pearl, Robin Hood's Bay

Welcome to the gorgeous Little Pearl in Robin Hoods Bay

There’s definitely something very romantic about the dramatic cliff-top setting of Robin Hoods Bay and Little Pearl is just a few minutes walk from the beach with a wood-burning fire to warm you up after your seafront stroll. Explore a myriad of cobbled streets and discover hidden treasures, traditional pubs and a selection of romantic restaurants for a candlelit meal.

What our guests say: "A very cosy romantic place to stay. Fairy lights and candles make this place extra special"

3. Coco, Helmsley

At night the lounge is super cosy with the soft crackle of the wood-burner and the glow from the lamps.

This bijou holiday cottage has a prime location in Helmsley, the only market town within the North York Moors National Park. Spend days exploring historic castles, pretty abbeys and beautiful countryside, then draw the blinds at this luxury holiday cottage, light the fire and relax.

What our guests say: "A beautiful cottage, with everything we could have wished for, and more besides! A great place to relax and unwind. The welcome hamper was an unexpected treat - thank you!"

4. Poacher’s Den, Near Otley

Poacher's Den

This charming country cottage has an idyllic spot in the grounds of a private 100-acre estate that looks out over the beautiful Washburn Valley in Nidderdale.  There's a wood-burning fire to keep it toasty in winter and it's so romantic that there was a recent proposal there (she said yes thankfully).

What our guests say: Poacher's Den is a superb property set in idyllic surroundings. It is a totally peaceful getaway from the world outside, but should you wish to venture out into civilisation, it is easily in reach of Harrogate, Pickering, York, or more locally Otley.

5. The Retreat, Sandsend

Romantic winter getaway

This fairytale cottage by the coast comes with gorgeous interiors, cosy wood-burning fire and half an acre of beautiful gardens. It’s been featured on More4’s Homes by the Sea and in American Vogue and the dark skies here make it an ideal spot for some romantic stargazing.

What our guests say: "What a wonderful cottage. It was immaculate inside and out..the gardens were amazing the house just wrapped itself around you ..so cosy and welcoming."

6. The Old Tin School, Low Mill

Romantic holiday cottage in Yorkshire

The Old Tin School has an idyllic location that's right in the middle of the North York Moors with a choice of scenic walking routes from the door. The open-plan living space has been beautifully designed into the perfect romantic retreat with a wood-burner that's just right for a cosy night in.

What our guests say: "This is a beautiful, well kept cottage and has stunning countryside views and we loved the peaceful location."

7. Slater's Barn, Ripon

Slater's Barn - Romantic winter cottage

A beautiful Grade II listed barn conversion that's located in a pretty Nidderdale village with Masham and Ripon both close by and a country pub just a short stroll away. Exposed beams give the 17th century building lots of character and it is kept warm by underfloor heating and a wood-burning fire.

What our guest's say: "Lovely cosy property with great attention to detail. Located in friendly village. Would highly recommend and we would certainly go back."

8. Moors Edge Lodge

Moors Edge Lodge

A great choice for dog-lovers, this one-bedroom retreat has a peaceful position sounded by farmland on the edge of the North York Moors' village of Gillamoor. Gorgeous walks from the doorstep, a dog-friendly country pub down the road and the popular village of Hutton-le-Hole (complete with sheep grazing around a picturesque stream) is just a couple of miles away.

What our guests say: "This lovely cottage was ideally situated to visit both rural and coastal locations. The cottage itself was idyllic and very comfortable."

Chocolate box holiday cottage for winter

The ultimate chocolate-box country retreat, Rosemary Cottage is a beautiful double-fronted stone property with an idyllic location in a quintessentially English village with a traditional pub just a short walk away. An ideal choice for a fairy-tale romantic break this winter.
