I travel across and stay in many parts of Yorkshire, and I love the huge variety of landscape here. But it’s got to be the North York Moors, my home turf so to speak, that I’m most fond of. Heaven to me is a Sunday tootle across the North York Moors for Sunday lunch at the many top restaurants here.
And luckily, there is an abundance of choice. We’ve chosen just 5 of the Best Restaurants in the North York Moors below. There are many more – If you think we’ve missed any which deserve a mention, tell us!
5 of the Best Restaurants in the North York Moors
1. The Black Swan, Oldstead
Holders of a Michelin star, for the third year in a row, the Black Swan is the sort of restaurant and pub you can only dream of stumbling across on your travels across the Moors. The menu is just divine, a cleverly thought out tribute to the excellent local produce here. Book a table – Now. Telephone: 01347 868 387 Website: http://blackswanoldstead.co.uk
2. The Cleveland Tontine, Osmotherly
A few miles north of the pretty village of Osmotherly, the Tontine is a fabulous place to come for dinner. The ambience in the restaurant is all about faded elegance, ‘a bit like a bordello’. An eccentric mix of dark wood, shutters and chandeliers, the critics love this place as much as the many celebrities who have eaten here. 3. Feversham Arms Hotel, Helmsley
Less than 5 miles from the Star Inn at Harome in the smart market town of Helmsley, this stylish hotel is set around a glamorous outdoor pool and has a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere you can just escape into. The food here is fantastic, and like the Star Inn the chefs make good use of local produce, like the pan roast sirloin of Yorkshire beef or the slow cooked Yorkshire pork belly…Telephone: 01439 770 766 Website: www.fevershamarmshotel.com
4. The Star Inn, Harome
A favourite of mine, I’ve enjoyed some excellent food at the Star and I love the choice of restaurant or bar to dine in. It’s a chocolate box location with its thatched cottage and village backdrop and Sunday lunch in the garden while the sun is shining is simply perfection…Telephone: 01439 770397 Website: http://www.thestaratharome.co.uk/
5. Joplins, Great Ayton
The wonderful Joplins restaurant is in the picture postcard village of Great Ayton. This cosy, romantic little place specialises in fantastic locally sourced seafood. Typical black board specials include Whitby Crab Salad, fresh Lobster and the divine Lemon Sole with Langoustine Sauce…Telephone: 01642 722773 Website: www.joplinsrestaurant.co.uk
There are many more top restaurants in the North York Moors we could mention, The Black Swan at Helmsley, the Wheatsheaf Inn at Egton, the list goes on and on. And if you’re tempted to try more than one why not plan your very own foodie break and set up base-camp at one of our holiday cottages in the North York Moors… Enjoy!
