What better way to exercise your dog than by taking them for a walk in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales countryside. You can even stop for a cheeky pint in one of the many dog-friendly pubs in this beautiful part of Yorkshire.
As long as you are considerate (keep dogs on a lead where appropriate and pick up any poo) and aware of any lurking dangers, you can have a fabulous dog-friendly day out in Yorkshire!
Here are some suggestions of dog-friendly walks in the Yorkshire Dales.
1. West Witton to Penhill
Just a short distance from the idyllic Wensleydale village of West Witton is the easily spotted Penhill. You can enjoy a lovely circular walk from the village with great views of Wensleydale from the top of Penhill.
2. Glasshouses to Pateley Bridge
The Nidderdale countryside is absolutely glorious and dogs will love stretching their legs on this riverside walk into Pateley Bridge.
Pateley Bridge is a lovely Nidderdale village which has a selection of dog-friendly pubs including The Crown Inn, The Royal Oak and The Bridge Inn.
3. Aysgarth Falls
Everyone loves a visit to Aysgarth Falls – including your four-legged friends! You can spend a day exploring this scenic setting with lots of different paths to try. We recommend heading to the nearby Wheatsheaf which is lovely dog-friendly country inn.
The Wensleydale Heifer in the village of West Witton is the perfect place to get a bite to eat with your doggie. This dog-friendly restaurant is well-renowned for their seafood and steaks including a selection of lobster dishes.
4. Muker to Thwaite circular
This scenic walk three-mile starts and ends at The Farmer’s Arms in Muker – a very nice dog-friendly walk in Upper Swaledale (you can find a selection of circular walks on The Farmer’s Arms website).
The route includes spectacular views from Kisdon Hill and although the first section of the walk is fairly steep, the rest is downhill and you can stop for refreshments in both Muker and Thwaite.
5. Hawes to Hardraw
The charming market town of Hawes (famous as the birthplace for Wensleydale cheese) is another great spot for a dog-walk. We recommend heading to nearby Hardrow Falls – it’s the largest single drop waterfall in the UK.
Well controlled dogs are welcome at the falls and are also permitted in pub. The Green Dragon. This Hardraw pub dates pack to the 13th century.
