I recently visited Tannery Cottage in the village of Harmby and loved its great location in Wensleydale (close to Leyburn, Bedale and Middleham) and the warm and cosy family feeling I got at the property.
The cottage has one double and one twin bedroom so works well for either couples or small families looking to explore this lovely area of the Dales.
Completely renovated by owners Mark and Tracey – they have added lots of extra touches to make guests feel at home including a selection of books, umbrellas and pictures.
Cook up a storm!
A spacious family kitchen/diner sits at the heart of Tannery Cottage and you’ll find everything you need to whip up some supper.
There are plenty of pots and pans (including a tagine), a large family fridge freezer, a double oven with hob and dishwasher so no-one will have to do the washing up afterwards.
You’ll also find a good selection of cookbooks in case you need some recipe inspiration.
Go for a walk (with or without your dog)!
The location is particularly good for dog-lovers as there are plenty of long walks in this very pretty part of the Yorkshire Dales. In fact, you’ll find walking paths just a couple of minutes from the property that look down over the village of Middleham.
Tannery Cottage has an ideal position in village of Harmby with a pretty stream running alongside the peaceful lane. Harmby has a waterfall that’s just a short walk from the cottage so definitely worth seeking out during your stay. The village also has a dog-friendly pub, The Pheasant Inn, where you can stop for refreshments after your bracing walk!
Family games night (in front of the fire)!
This property works really well for families and there is a children’s play area just over the road by the village hall. I recommend playing a game of pooh sticks on the way as the stream runs right under the road.
The sitting room at Tannery Cottage has a real log fire and comfortable sofas so is the ideal place for spending some time with the family. It’s the perfect place for a family games night – especially as you’ll find a selection provided for you in the cottage.
Head into Leyburn (or Bedale or Middleham)!
You won’t be stuck for things to do during your holiday as Harmby has an absolutely brilliant location between Leyburn and Bedale – there is even a bus service from the village to both towns.
Leyburn itself is just over a mile away so you can easily walk to the many tearooms, cafes and shops. On the way, you’ll pass Tennants Auction House and Garden Room (they do a great afternoon tea). You’ll also see The Little Chocolate Shop in Leyburn where you can visit the factory and sample some chocolates.
Harmby is also just a few miles from Middleham so you can pay a visit to Richard III’s castle and spend a fun-filled day at Forbidden Corner.
A home from home
Tannery Cottage really does feel like a cosy home from home. The quiet location, double-glazed windows and comfortable beds all help in getting a good night’s sleep so you are ready for a new day of adventures!
You don’t have take my word for it though – here are some of the recent reviews left in the Guest Book:
“Awesome place to visit. Amazing falls and walks. Slept like a baby!”
“Fantastic cottage – so well stocked and homely – lovely décor and set in a beautiful location”
