5 reasons to stay at Rowan House

Rowan House

I recently paid a visit to Rowan House in Hackforth and got a warm welcome from owners Emma and Scott Notman (not to mention from their friendly dog Holly) who showed me round their former family home that has now been transformed into a large family holiday cottage.

#01 Relax in a home from home

Rowan House

One of the great about being on holiday is kicking back and relaxing so it is important to stay somewhere that you feel comfortable. The philosophy of Emma and Scott is to create a ‘home from home’ for their guests and they have designed everything in Rowan House to work for families. The hub of the property is the social open-plan  kitchen/diner which even has a snug area at one end complete with TV and comfortable chairs.

It’s cosy and warm throughout with underfloor heating and if you all need a bit of space there are separate sitting and play rooms (with Playstation, bean bags and lots of DVDs).

#02 Whip up a storm in the kitchen

Emma and Scott regularly make improvements to Rowan House, sinking all the profits they make from holiday lets back into the property.  The most recent edition has been an AGA which forms the centrepiece of the spacious kitchen.

Everything you could possible need in the kitchen, from a hand mixer to a turkey baster, so you certainly won’t be short of pots and pans! The AGA is automatically switched on everyday so will be ready for you to use!

#03 Gather family and friends together (and enjoy a bike ride)!

Despite being surrounded by gorgeous North Yorkshire countryside, Rowan House is just a few minutes from the A1 so can be easily reached from different parts of the UK.  An ideal meeting spot if your family and friends are scattered about!

Not only will you find a blanket box full of board games for quiet nights in, the location also makes a great starting point for bike rides if you fancy being a bit more active. Scott says:

“We get a lot of keen cyclists at the property and I think the attraction is that the roads are very quiet and you start and finish on the flat. You can build up to some steeper climbs and then recover at the end”.

#04 Your four-legged friend will be in doggie heaven!

Rowan House

Rowan House is a dog-friendly property and really makes a great choice for four-legged friends. Not only do they have the choice of curling up in front of a log-burning fire or the AGA but there is also a spacious enclosed garden and a dog-friendly pub (aptly named The Greyhound) just a few minutes walk away.

As well as a Steak Night every Thursday they also apparently do a very good Sunday lunch.

#05 A lovely location with stunning views

I loved the unspoilt views from both the front and the rear of Rowan House. Beyond the garden are acres of paddocks  currently home to 6 friendly horses) and the village is just a 5 minute walk from Hornby Deer Park.

If you fancy venturing further afield then both Catterick and Bedale are just a few miles away.  Catterick has a cinema and retail park for rainy days while Bedale is a charming market town with lots of independent shops and food choices.
