Agra Cottage in Nidderdale is one of our most popular holiday cottages.
It’s a no-brainer really when you look at Agra’s stunning location; Nidderdale is a recognised Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is for many known as the civilised corner of the Yorkshire Dales. But there are many other reasons why our Gorgeous Guests return to this luxury Yorkshire Cottage time and time again.
Hard to limit ourselves to such a small number, but here’s my top 5 reasons to love Agra Cottage…
5 things to love about Agra Cottage in Nidderdale
1 A room with a view
The dining room in Agra Cottage is just gorgeous with its generous slate table, double height ceiling and large picture window. Through breakfast, lunch and supper dining here is just heavenly, with Agra’s walled garden and Nidderdale beyond as the backdrop.
2 Rambling with rewards
Striking out from your doorstep, a bracing 2 hour walk across Nidderdale’s grouse moors will take you to the Blue Lion in East Witton, one of the finest gastro-pubs in Yorkshire. Without a road or car in sight, it is a great way to earn Sunday lunch, and to walk it off afterwards…
3 Mystical markings
Agra Cottage is located close to a fascinating find of pre-historic rock art on Agra Moor – it’s possible to walk from the cottage and find them. It’s a fascinating and genuinely moving experience to view carvings made by inhabitants of the Yorkshire Dales thousands of years ago.
4 Foodie Masham on your doorstep
Masham is a handsome Dales market town which boasts a wealth of distractions for the discerning holiday-maker. Indulge with a Yorkshire cream tea at a traditional tea-room or go for something stronger at the Black Sheep Brewery. Dinner is taken care of at the fantastic Vennells and Samuels at Swinton Park, just a little out of town. Or dine in with supplies from some excellent local shops, including the famous Masham sausages from Beavers Butchers. Don’t forget a bottle of something good from Cork & Cases.
5 The Flora and Fauna
Agra Cottage has a wonderfully secluded position high up on the grouse moors set away from main roads. Because of this peace and quiet you have a chance to really connect with the local wildlife. Listen to owls at night, catch the lapwings and curlews in the spring, watch the pheasants, grouse and moorhens waddling around. And if you’re lucky you may even spot a wild deer or two.
