We had the pleasure of staying in Heather View Lodge with our family this February, and we absolutely fell in love with it. There is so much to enjoy in this luxury holiday cottage in the North York Moors, but here are our Top 5 reasons to fall in love with it…
#01 The View
The clues in the name, Heather View Lodge offers uninterrupted views across and down Rosedale in the North York Moors National Park. As you would expect from an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the views are simply spectacular and you can enjoy them from the living area, garden, hot tub and 3 of the 4 bedrooms. We loved settling down to watch the changing light as it danced across the heather.
#02 The Wildlife
Literally within a minute of our arrival we spotted a Barn Owl swooping low over the fields adjacent to the cottage, hunting for its prey at dusk. During our stay we also spotted hares, a stoat and a kestrel. Heather View affords uninterrupted views of the countryside and its wildlife from large patio doors, both in the living room and dining area. Binoculars are provided giving you a close-up view.
Following hot on the heels of wildlife spotting is getting outside and enjoying being close to nature again. We took the kids on several good-sized walks down into Rosedale Abbey village and back, taking in fields, rivers and wooded areas on route. They loved the opportunity to have a good old squelch about in their wellies, and not an iPad in sight. We were rewarded by tea and cakes at the fantastic ‘Graze on the Green’ cafe in the village each day.
Heather View is an incredibly generous house, with heaps of space for two families to enjoy together without getting on top of each other. There are 4 good sized bedrooms, 3 of which are en suite, and in addition there’s a family bathroom – so definitely no queues for the bathroom each morning.
#05 Lots to do!
This area of the North York Moors is particularly blessed with lots of good options for eating out and keeping the kids happy. Spend a morning exploring Ryedale Folk Museum followed by lunch at the excellent family-friendly pub The Crown in Hutton-le-Hole. In the warmer months challenge the family to a day at Go Ape in nearby Dalby Forest, or get out on the bikes and explore this gorgeous country on two wheels. Whitby and the many attractions of the Yorkshire Coast are also within easy reach for a day trip.
