5 things to love about The Lodge Holiday Cottage, Pateley Bridge

There are holiday cottages which appeal because of their location, some which appeal because of their traditional and character and some which appeal because of their comfortable and homely atmosphere.  The Lodge LHB near Pateley Bridge has all three traits in abundance.

I first encountered the Lodge LHB in deepest darkest January 2013 when I stayed there with my young family.  Given the sub-zero temperatures outside, it was an absolute pleasure to find this 200 year old Yorkshire Cottage warm and cosy inside.

We loved it for lots of reasons, but here are my top 5 things to love about The Lodge LHB, Pateley Bridge

Thick Walls

The Lodge LHB Holiday Cottage - Pateley Bridge

Might seem a small thing I know but don’t you just love thick walls.  Almost 2 foot in some places, the sense of history and character literally oozes out of the building in every room.  With the fire roaring and the snow falling outside it gives you a wonderful sense of being cocooned and safe.

Something for a sweet tooth

Oldest Sweet Shop in England - Pateley Bridge

Pateley Bridge is just a short drive from The Lodge LHB.  It’s a very pretty little town set on the banks of the River Nidd.  On it’s charming high street you will find amongst other delights the ‘Oldest Sweet Shop in England’ – and that’s official folks, it’s in the Guinness book of records.  Take a deliciously sugary walk down memory lane and rediscover how amazing cherry lips and Jazzie chocolates taste…

A decadent dining room

The Lodge LHB Holiday Cottage - Pateley Bridge

The Lodge LHB has very special dining room.  Having had the pleasure of dinner here in the evening, I can recommend the experience.  A candlelit table, a glowing wood-burner, the elegant dark green walls – it all combines to create a deliciously decadent ambience – just perfect for a special evening meal with family and friends.

Nidderdale’s Natural Highs

Nidderdale is known as the civilised corner of the Dales, but that in no way detracts from the sheer magnificence of the countryside here.  It’s no wonder it’s a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  Soaring hills, dramatic moorlands and lush green valleys combine to create a truly stunning landscape.  Set off for a walk from The Lodge Holiday Cottage and discover some of the most breath-taking vistas in the Yorkshire Dales.

The Mother of all Wood-burners

The Lodge LHB Holiday Cottage - Pateley Bridge

Perfection for me is settling down after dinner with a glass of something good, and warming my toes by a real fire.  The generous and very comfortable sitting room in The Lodge LHB is dominated by a huge original stone fireplace, in which sits probably the biggest wood-burner I’ve ever seen.   Every evening we fired it up and let it roar – absolute heaven…
