5 Things to love about Rosella Cottage, Rosedale Abbey

We’re just coming to the end of an idyllic weekend at Rosella Cottage in Rosedale Abbey, a picture-postcard village tucked away in a lush green valley in the North York Moors.

The sun was shining, the moors were gleaming and Rosella Cottage was delightful.  There are more, but here are just 5 things to love about this charming Yorkshire holiday cottage.

5 Things to love about Rosella Cottage, Rosedale Abbey

#01  That Boutique Hotel vibe

Rosella Cottage - North York Moors

Rosella Cottage - North York Moors (12)

The owners of Rosella Cottage wanted to create the ambience of a Boutique hotel upstairs, with a plush bedroom and a large stylish en suite.  And I have to say getting ready up here was a pleasure with the large monsoon shower, the nice toiletries, the grand double height ceiling in the bedroom.   It all felt very luxurious and a bit of a treat.

#02  Graze on the Green

Graze on the Green

Graze on the Green

Nope, not talking about the sheep who often wander down onto the village green here, I’m referring to the excellent little deli/café (licenced) which looks out onto the village green.  Graze on the Green is just a stone’s throw from Rosella Cottage and over the course of the last 2 days we ate here 3 times!  A testament to the good food, the warm welcome and view from the tea garden.

#03  Spectacular scenery

Chimney Bank

5 roads branch out from the village green in Rosedale Abbey  taking you in every direction.   Each and every one, I know because we tried it, delivers utterly spectacular views of the North York Moors countryside.  It’s just jaw-droppingly beautiful here.  We particularly loved the panoramic scene from the top of Chimney Bank, a punishing vertical climb taken on by only the most ambitious of walkers and cyclists.  We did it in the car and that was hard enough!

#04  Winding down

Rosedale Abbey

Rosedale Abbey - 2

The pace of life here is so refreshingly slow, you can’t help but adjust your own rhythm accordingly.  On Saturday afternoon we spent 3 hours just lying under the shade of a huge tree on the green.  Without an ipad in site the girls were able to amuse themselves collecting sticks, acorns, insects.  We were barely interrupted by them.  And with the sound of birdsong as the only distraction, I can’t remember another time when I so enjoyed just being in the present.

Hutton Le Hole

Sunday was equally pleasant.  A stroll around the village before tootling over to neighbouing village Hutton-Le-Hole for a splash around in the stream.

#05  Small but perfectly formed

Rosella Cottage Rosedale

Rosella Cottage has one bedroom and it has been essentially designed for couples to enjoy as a country retreat.  But clever management of space allowed us as a family of 4 to enjoy it too.  There is a sofa bed in the lounge and the spacious master bedroom is more than big enough for a travel cot.  There are plenty of attractions in the village for adults and children alike with the tea rooms, the decent pubs, the walks.  You can happily hide away in the village for days, without even thinking about getting in the car…
