5 things to love about Wortley Cottage, Yorkshire Coast

I was first introduced to Wortley Cottage in Robin Hood’s Bay by LUXE – a high-end luxury lifestyle magazine covering the North of England.  They had run a two page spread on this beautiful holiday cottage on the Yorkshire coast in their interior section.

Wortley Cottage - Yorkshire Coast

And when you see how pretty Wortley Cottage is it’s not hard to see why they were impressed.  Refurbished from scratch by owner Karen Stephenson (a professional interior designer) every colour, fabric and ornament has been carefully chosen to create a truly unique luxury cottage.

Having stayed in Wortley Cottage myself, there are many reasons for me why it makes the perfect coastal holiday cottage.  Here’s my top 5 things to love about this Robin Hood’s Bay Cottage…

5 things to love about Wortley Cottage on the Yorkshire Coast

1. The seaside setting

Robin Hood's Bay

If you’re familiar with Robin Hood’s Bay then you’ll know just how lovely this historic Yorkshire fishing village is.  Tumbling down towards the sea the village is a labyrinth of fisherman’s cottages, cosy cafés and quaint little shops and pubs.  It could have been lifted straight from a postcard.  Wortley Cottage enjoys an enviable position on Chapel Street, just a hop, skip and a jump to the beach…

2. The New England look

Wortley Cottage on the Yorkshire Coast

Fresh, bright and very seaside!  Wortley Cottage has a very distinct look inspired by the coastal homes of New England.  White clapboard panelling, blue accents of colour, shabby chic flooring and period features throughout have combined to create a stylish and luxury holiday cottage with a real sense of its coastal location.

3. Wonderful walks from the doorstep

Wainwright’s famous coast to coast walk ends (or starts depending on how you look at it!) in Robin Hood’s Bay, just seconds from Wortley Cottage.   You can take the steps up onto the headland and be striking out along Yorkshire’s stunning coastline within seconds.  Whitby is reachable on foot if you’re reasonably fit and the North York Moors lie beyond for those who want to go further…

4. The magnificent master bedroom

Wortley Cottage Robin Hood's Bay

Dominated by a feature antique bed (incredibly comfortable by the way) this beautiful bedroom looks out onto Chapel Street and the village below.  Painted white floorboards and a stunning period fireplace create a distinctly traditional look, with a contemporary twist.  Complete with its own en-suite, something of a rarity in Robin Hood’s Bay, it’s a heavenly cottage bedroom…

5. Taking a jaunt over to Whitby

Greens of Whitby - Yorkshire Coast

Wortley Cottage is just a few minutes’ drive away from Whitby, the well-known and much loved Yorkshire seaside town.  Pop over for fish and chips at the Magpie Café, or go out for dinner at the excellent Greens of Whitby – a fine dining seafood restaurant to rival any in London…  And in between there enough bars, cafés and fascinating independent shops huddled along its medieval streets to keep you amused for hours…
