My husband and I are (alas!) back in New York after our visit to England. The highlight of our month-long trip was our week’s stay in York at Darcy’s Cottage. We had such a wonderful time.’

Set looking out onto a cobbled courtyard, this gorgeous Georgian Cottage features its own apple orchard. Picture yourself and your beau walking hand in hand through the trees each morning, dreaming of what’s to come and enjoying the now. It’s not every holiday cottage which can boast its own orchard, but Darcy’s Cottage is one of them. Set behind a beautiful Georgian manor house in a very pretty Yorkshire village, it really is an idyllic setting for romance…

The huge bathroom at Darcy’s Cottage features a stunning French bateau bath and enormous walk-in monsoon shower. It’s the sort of bathroom which deserves some attention. No rushing to get ready in here; take some time, enjoy it, savour every moment.

3. Cosy, cosy, cosy

Number one on my list of priorities for any romantic cottage is that it must feel cosy. Tucked away in Holtby near York, Darcy’s Cottage does cosy with abundance. The gorgeous kitchen with its original Georgian period features, the comfortable sitting room with its wood burner and soft leather sofas, as well as the pretty courtyard to the front. Everything about this cottage is cosy.

4. Romantic master bedroom

Make your way up the winding wooden stairs to discover the stunning master bedroom of this luxury cottage near York. Complete with its original fireplace, sash window, warm wooden floors and a huge antique bed, it’s a totally dreamy cottage bedroom. You could squirrel yourself away for days in here.

5. Magical York

York

Voted one of the best UK weekend break destinations, York is a fabulous city to enjoy a romantic getaway. Darcy’s Cottage is less than 15 minutes from central York, so you can have a chilled out morning at your romantic York cottage before heading into the city to see the sights. There are loads of really great restaurants in York, a host of designer and independent shops and countless old pubs and inns to discover: a perfect way to while away an afternoon with your loved one. And if you ever tire of this medieval delight you can choose to head in the opposite direction and take in the gentle beauty of the Yorkshire Wolds, which are literally on your doorstep.
