5 things to love about Miller

5 things to love about Miller's Retreat, Yorkshire Dales

I had the pleasure of staying at Miller’s Retreat during a very welcome spell of warm and sunny weather in the summer of 2013.

Yes the long hot days added a magical touch to that break, but the quality of this holiday cottage and its charming village location played a huge part in what was a wonderful family holiday.

Read on to discover my top 5 reasons to fall in love with Millers Retreat Cottage in Crakehall, Yorkshire Dales…

Five things to love about Millers Retreat, Little Crakehall

The huge bedrooms

The extra large bedrooms in Miller's Retreat

It’s only when you spend time in a large bedroom that you truly appreciate the value of space. All of the three bedrooms in Millers Retreat holiday cottage are very generous to say the least and all are en-suite. It feels like a real luxury to have all this space to yourself, and it’s particularly good to retreat to when you need a little quiet me time on your holiday.

One of my favourite villages

A post shared by bethinburlie (@bethinburlie) on

We really enjoyed the very easy amble up to the village green, watching the local cricket team knock leather on willow for the afternoon. Little Crakehall is a picture-postcard Yorkshire Dales village with the obligatory river, village pub and handsome manor house. Very pretty and a lovely place to while away an afternoon. Such was the congenial atmosphere, the gents in our party even challenged each other in a very gentlemanly race…

The terrace by the river

The Terrace by the river at Miller's Retreat in the Yorkshire Dales

Millers Retreat features its own private terrace accessed directly from the bright and airy lounge – a huge plus for any luxury cottage. We spent several very pleasant afternoons relaxing here with a G & T while the kids happily pottered around us. It was the perfect spot for a little rest and relaxation, just to kick back and listen to the sound of the river gurgle along below you. To break up the afternoon we took a tour of the working flour mill next to the cottage…

Easy access to the Yorkshire Dales

Yorkshire Dales

Little Crakehall is on the cusp of Wensleydale and some of the most beautiful scenery in the Yorkshire Dales. Head over towards Hawes and take in the lush green meadows and wandering rivers on route. Jervaulx Abbey, Bolton Castle and many more pretty towns and villages are all within very easy reach. If you’re looking for a good lunch stop then the Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton is a super option…

The quality interiors

The lounge with wood-burner in Miller's Retreat

Millers Retreat has been beautifully restored both inside and out. The quality of every material, paint and fabric used is evident throughout, from the heated stone floors to the sumptuous linen on the king-size beds. This is a seriously luxurious holiday cottage. We loved settling down by the wood burner each evening after dinner as dusk slowly crept across the river towards us. And at night there was absolute peace, giving us the best night’s sleep in months.

Millers Retreat is a 3-bedroom luxury holiday cottage in the Yorkshire Dales. It’s available to book now, just click on the link: Millers Retreat. I’m sure you will enjoy it as much as we did…
