Rokerby Cottage is set on the northern fringes of the Yorkshire Dales in a pretty little village called Hutton Magna.
When I visited the cottage recently the sun was shining and the birds were singing and the whole place seemed to sigh with contentment.
I loved it, and here’s why you will too.
1. Inviting the outside in
Rokerby Cottage has two sets of patio doors leading out to its pretty courtyard garden. In the morning, throw open the bedroom doors and breathe in that Yorkshire Dales air. Then over lunch open the kitchen patio doors and enjoy the sights and sounds of a peaceful walled garden.
2. A sense of style
Throughout Rokerby Cottage you are struck by a sense of elegance and style. From the classic cream sitting room with its gorgeous stone fireplace to the delightful bathroom with its flash of blue and contemporary art. This is a holiday cottage with taste.
3. Buy local
Just a few miles from Rokerby Cottage you’ll find a fantastic and locally renowned farm shop at Mainsgill Farm stocking the most wonderful Yorkshire produce. Forget the mind-numbing trudge around a supermarket, this is food shopping you will really enjoy. There’s also a lovely cafe here and if you have kids with you, they will love visiting the resident animals, including a herd of camels!
4. Dine out
And when you really can’t be bothered to cook, open the front door and stroll 50 yards along to the fabulous Oak Tree Inn. A gorgeous little Michelin-recommended fine dining inn just a stone’s throw from the cottage in the same village. There are also several more excellent restaurants and dining pubs in the area including the Black Bull at Moulton.
5. Dine outside
Rokerby comes complete with a charming patio area with outside furniture. This sheltered spot is perfect for al fresco dining in the summer months where you can relax in privacy and enjoy the views across the churchyard to the Dales beyond.
