Five things to love about Foxglove Cottage

Ed 08 October 2013

Foxglove Cottage in Hutton Buscel, a picture-perfect little village in the North York Moors, is quite possibly the perfect holiday cottage.  I just love it!  The look, the character, the location…it’s got the full package.  Having stayed here myself a few months ago I have been raving about it ever since.

So why do I think it’s the perfect luxury Yorkshire Cottage?  Let me share with you…

Five things to love about Foxglove Cottage

1. The fabulous Yorkshire welcome

Foxglove Cottage - North York Moors

In addition to the lovely warm greeting from owner Lynn de Bruyn, you’ll also take delight in the sumptuous food hamper.  Everything comes from quality local suppliers and is the very best of Yorkshire produce.  Expect everything you need for a hearty Yorkshire breakfast including plump sausages, eggs, and bacon, a bottle of wine in the fridge, something sweet to have with a cup of tea as well as nibbles for the evening.  Recent guests arrived to camembert studded with garlic and rosemary with French bread to dip in their olive oil and balsamic dressing. And Lynn had even taken the time to light candles and have music playing for them: little touches that elevate standard self-catering to a luxurious experience.

2. The dreamy cottage garden

You can tell straight away that Lynn is a passionate gardener.  Foxglove Cottage has a beautiful garden with several separate areas for different times of the day.  We enjoyed our breakfast on the patio by the kitchen and lazed on the lawn in the afternoon sun.  The bench by the pond is a wonderful spot for a pre-dinner G & T as you watch the sun setting over the North York Moors.

3. That elusive luxury cottage feeling

In my experience, there are many luxury holiday cottages which have style, but some lack the substance to back it up.  Foxglove Cottage has everything.  The beautiful interior feels more like the home of a well-travelled friend.  Trinkets from around the world, travel books to muse over after dinner, Jazz CDs, and the best-stocked kitchen I’ve ever seen in a cottage.   You don’t want for anything, and in my book, that is true luxury.

4. The choice for foodies

The Anvil at Sawdon - Foxglove Cottage

Foxglove Cottage is surrounded by a number of excellent gastropubs including the award-winning Anvil at SawdonCoachman at Snainton and Copper Horse at Seamer. All are just a few minutes’ drive away. Eating out and eating well is one of the key elements for any cottage holiday. So to have such a great choice on your doorstep is just another of the reasons why we love Foxglove Cottage and this area of Yorkshire so much.

5. The idyllic Yorkshire location

Hutton Buscel - North York Moors

As you will know from many of my previous blogs, I have been in love with the North York Moors for many years.  It’s a truly stunning landscape peppered with many pretty villages and towns, including the chocolate box Thornton-le-Dale just a few minutes’ drive from the cottage. And in the opposite direction, you can be on the Yorkshire Coast within a few minutes allowing you to experience different flavours of Yorkshire with little effort…
