Five things to love about Wykewood holiday cottages

Five things to love about Wykewood

Ed 06 February 2016

There are few things more life-enhancing than a few days by the sea, so it was with great anticipation that we looked forward to a weekend break at our brand new luxury holiday cottage Wykewood. Set by woodland on Yorkshire’s breathtaking coast, it's just a 15-minute walk down to the beach and the setting couldn’t be more magical.

Wykewood (12)

I fell in love with it from the moment we arrived, and here’s why you will too.

1. Woodland and seaside walks

Amazing views out to sea

Wykewood is positioned right on the edge of traditional English woodland, and a few minutes' walk will take you to an extensive range of National Trust woodland walks complete with waterfalls and wildlife to enjoy. Heaven for all ages, but particularly fun for children who will love splashing about in the streams and trying to spot the wild deer on their travels.

2. Grown up interiors

Wykewood (19)

The first thing that struck me on arrival at Wykewood was just how right the owners have pitched the interiors. Not only is there bags of space with two huge en-suite bedrooms, but everything has been done to maximise relaxation. Underfloor heating, super king-size beds, subtle lighting, the finest quality furnishings and fixutures – it all combines to create a feeling of comfortable luxury.

3. Fantastic for foodies

We loved the fact that you’re surrounded by several very good local pubs offering excellent traditional fayre, from the walkable Hayburn Wyke to the Falcon just a few minutes' drive away. And for something a little more refined, the renowned Raven Hall Hotel offers delectable afternoon teas and top dining in their restaurant, complete with stunning views along the coastline. Jeremy’s Bistro in Scarborough is also well worth a visit and just 20 minutes by car.

4. Hot tub therapy

Wykewood (24)

The tub at Wykewood is a wood-fired one which gives the whole thing a wholesome, rustic vibe. Once the fire’s roaring the water becomes like a warm bath, and sinking into it while the wind is blowing around you is a particularly pleasant experience. Racing back to the sanctuary of the house afterwards is all part of the fun!

5. Dive into the Sea Life Centre

The renowned Sea Life Centre in Scarborough is just 20 minutes away by car and is a great way to while away an afternoon. They have some really fascinating tanks filled with all manner of things including ghostly manta rays and jellyfish, penguins and sea lions. This is a lovely way to connect fully with this coastal location and afterwards you can mosey up to the pleasant pub nearby, The Old Scalby Mills, for tea providing great pub grub and fantastic views of the coastline and North Sea.
