I recently had the great privilege of spending a night at The Penthouse in Harrogate to see for myself just what makes this place so special. It has everything you would expect from a high-end apartment that’s close to the town centre but it also has a little something extra as well – personality. Here are my top reasons to pay a visit to The Penthouse:
1. The fabulous position

The Penthouse is very aptly named as it is the stunning top floor apartment of an impressive detached building in the Duchy area of Harrogate. Think peaceful leafy avenues, grand buildings and large gardens – basically exactly what you would expect from a classy Harrogate residence. I had a very pleasant stroll into town down some pretty tree-lined streets to reach the centre of town.

2. The funky retro style
Who wants to stay in a boring apartment? Not me. I always like to find something a little bit different when staying away from home and The Penthouse certainly didn’t disappoint me.

With a cool white dining table and a splash of orange wallpaper, the result is a stylish retro pad that’s just oozing in class. Little touches include a record player and selection of vinyls – why not pour yourself a martini and get into the 60s vibe!

3. The magnificent living space
The most impressive feature of The Penthouse is the long open living area which has full length floor to ceiling glass doors leading out onto a private balcony.

The ceiling has been opened into the vaulted roof at the back of the room and spotlights help to accentuate this dramatic effect. I loved the lighting in this room which you can alter to really change the mood from romantic to celebration.
4. A good night’s sleep
I sometimes struggle to sleep properly when away from home but I slept like a baby in the comfortable bed at The Penthouse. There was absolute silence in the room and the pillows and bedding were all first rate.

The second bedroom (my sister tested it out for me) was just as comfortable and can either be made up with 2 singles or one double bed – depending on your preference.

Large sliding wardrobes in both rooms (the spaces are cleverly hidden behind the walls) means your room can be clutter free to help with that peaceful feeling.
5. The high spec finish
When a property is called The Penthouse you expect a certain level of luxury so I was very pleased to discover that everything in the apartment is of the highest quality.

The bathrooms (it comes with two) are furnished with Villeroy and Bosch fittings and come with stylish mood lighting options.

You’ll also get free Wi-Fi, a sound system and an Apple TV box (that of course also comes with a flat screen TV).
6. It’s the perfect base for a great night out

We couldn’t stay in Harrogate without hitting the town for some food and a few drinks and James Mossman who owns The Penthouse was only too happy to give us the benefit of his local knowledge. There are lots of big name bars and restaurants in Harrogate (Jamie’s Italian, Pitcher & Piano etc.) but he recommended trying some of the independents that make the town such an exciting place to visit.

Our first port of call was Major Tom’s Social whose funky retro style is really in keeping with The Penthouse and who specialise in a wide range of craft beers (also serving delicious cocktails if you prefer). Other options to try include the Blues Bar, North Bar, The Last Post and Ten Devonshire Place.

We then headed to William and Victoria’s (a Harrogate institution for more than 40 years) which serves traditional British food in a cosy wine bar setting. The Shepherds Pie washed down with a glass of wine was the perfect end to a a perfect night!
