Nine cosy and warm

Nine cosy and warm 'hygge' cottages

I had never heard of the term hygge (pronounced hoo-gah) until a couple of months ago and it now seems to be everywhere. If you are unfamiliar with this Danish word, it is all about creating the right ambience in your home so that it is cosy, warm and inviting.

Nurse Cherry Cottage

With the weather getting colder and winter well and truly on its way I think we could all do with a little hygge in our lives. With this in mind, here are ten cottages we think have mastered the cosy and warm vibe.

Barley Cottage

Barley Cottage has got ‘warm and inviting’ down to a T. Sink into a leather chair and curl up by the fire with a good book. Its location is idyllic and if you can bear to tear yourself away from the cottage there is a super 17th century village pub just down the road.

2. Burtersett Cottage

Burtersett Cottage

From its position in a sleepy Wensleydale village you can look out over the Dales while warming yourself by the fire. The fireplace is original as is the stone floor, while the rug and cushions add warmth and cosiness.
