Discover the best walks in Yorkshire with Walking-Books

Yorkshire Walking Routes

One of the top reasons to visit Yorkshire has got to be the wide selection of stunning walks available.  Not only are there two National Parks to enjoy (the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors) but there are also miles and miles of stunning coastline to walk.

Whether you like the challenge of a steep climb or prefer a gentle amble that stops by a tea room or two, I’m pretty sure that Yorkshire will have the perfect walk for you.

Yorkshire Walking Books

A great way to start planning the walks you would like to try is with the choice of packs available from Walking-Books.com. Each pack (there is one covering the Moors and two that focus on the Dales) has 20 classic walks that range from easy to difficult. You can view the full range of Yorkshire packs here.

Durable Walking Cards

We absolutely love the formats of these packs as each walk comes on its own double-sided A5 card. You can put the card in a waterproof map case (included in the pack) and wear round your neck or keep in your jacket pocket so there is no need to take a bulky book with you.

North York Moors Walking Routes

Each card contains a professional map on one side and clear concise instructions on the other. They include the distance, height gain, places of interest and (most importantly) where you can stop for refreshments or the toilet!

Easy walks to try include:

Grosmont

The Hole of Horcum from Saltergate – a 5.5 mile walk that takes in a particularly scenic part of the North York Moors.

Grosmont and The Moors Railway from Egton Bridge – a 4.5 mile walk that has an amazing view across the Moors to Whitby Abbey.

Hardraw Force from Hawes – a 5 mile walk that takes in the magnificent 96 foot single-drop waterfall and the splendid 18th century Simonstone Hall.

Some more challenging options are:

Image of Roseberry Topping by Colin Carter

Roseberry Topping, Highcliff Nab and Cook’s Monument a rewarding 10.5 tour around three of the most magnificent viewpoints in the North York Moors.

Pen-Y-Ghent from Horton-in-Ribblesdale which is a classic 6 mile ascent of the lowest of the Three Peaks

The Malham Round from Malham Village – a magnificent 7 mile walk which incorporates limestone scenery (including an optional route through Gordale Scar)

Making Tracks for Kids

Making Tracks Yorkshire Dales

As well as the standard adult packs, there are also 2 Making Tracks packs that have been specially designed for children. The packs (one for the Moors and one for the Dales) include fun activities and simple walks so it is easy for kids to lead the way.

Aysgarth Falls

Walk locations include Roseberry Topping, Robin Hood’s Bay, Kilburn White Horse, Brimham Rocks and Aysgarth Falls. Find out more about walking-books.com here.
