Best of all, though, is the enclosed courtyard garden that looks out towards the Wensleydale countryside.
Why it’s great for families: The Middleham location is ideal for families as there are plenty of Yorkshire Dales attractions nearby. Middleham is also home to over 500 racehorses and children will love watching them being walked through the village.
Don’t miss: The Forbidden Corner is one of Yorkshire’s most popular family attractions and just a short drive from Little Windor. This fabulous folly includes mazes, caves and hidden surprises lurking around every corner.
Foxy’s Den is tucked away behind the village green in Reeth - one of Swaledale’s most idyllic spots where you can enjoy 360-degree views of the surrounding countryside. The traditional stone cottage has been given a 21st-century makeover and combines Scandi-style contemporary design with characterful original features. Why it’s great for families: There’s bike hire available in Reeth and the Swale Trail is an easy-access cycling route that was specially designed for families.

This 18th-century Georgian house just oozes character and class. From the centuries-old Espalier Tree that climbs up the stone frontage to a feature arched window looking over the pretty walled garden, Coverlea is a truly special property.

Osgodby Cottage is a handsome double-fronted cottage that dates back to the 18th century and has a peaceful spot in a pretty coastal village near Filey. With a couple of spacious living areas and three large bedrooms, it’s a great choice for a summer family holiday. The traditional country-style kitchen includes an AGA and a Belfast sink.
