The Fernery

This gorgeous (and dog-friendly) two-bedroom property combines luxurious interiors, a peaceful spot in the grounds of a private estate and a fabulous bubbling hot tub. Both bedrooms have access to their own bathrooms at The Fernery and a separate snug (with a Smart TV) will keep older children happy.

Why it’s great for families: The outside space at The Fernery is perfect for summer living. Private decking (complete with seating, BBQ and the hot tub) looks out over open countryside and makes the most of this stunning location.

#03 - Little Windor - Middleham

Why it’s great for families: The Middleham location is ideal for families as there are plenty of Yorkshire Dales attractions nearby. Middleham is also home to over 500 racehorses and children will love watching them being walked through the village.

Don’t miss: The Forbidden Corner is one of Yorkshire’s most popular family attractions and just a short drive from Little Windor. This fabulous folly includes mazes, caves and hidden surprises lurking around every corner.

#04 - Foxy’s Den - Reeth

Foxy’s Den is tucked away behind the village green in Reeth - one of Swaledale’s most idyllic spots where you can enjoy 360-degree views of the surrounding countryside. The traditional stone cottage has been given a 21st-century makeover and combines Scandi-style contemporary design with characterful original features. Outside the cottage is a gated patio with BBQ - perfect for a spot of al fresco dining.

Why it’s great for families: There’s bike hire available in Reeth and the Swale Trail is an easy-access cycling route that was specially designed for families.

Don’t miss: Get an ice cream from the parlour in Reeth and head to the banks of the River Swale for a splash around.

#05 - Coverlea

Coverlea in the Yorkshire Dales

This 18th-century Georgian house just oozes character and class. From the centuries-old Espalier Tree that climbs up the stone frontage to a feature arched window looking over the pretty walled garden, Coverlea is a truly special property.

There are beautiful design features throughout the three-bedroom property and a cosy lounge that is just right for a relaxing night in with the family. Two of the spacious bedrooms come with an en-suite shower room and the additional family bathroom features a gorgeous free-standing bath.

#06 - Postbox Cottage

This three-bedroom barn conversion is nestled in a riverside hamlet near Malton (a handsome market town known as Yorkshire’s capital of food). Enjoy online entertainment in the form of Netflix or offline fun with a good old-fashioned board game. There’s room for two doggies in this handsome holiday home which has been recently renovated as a luxury family-friendly retreat. Children of all ages will love the upstairs games room which includes a ping pong table.

Why it’s great for families: A separate barn at Postbox Cottage houses a washing machine and dryer along with six bikes that are available for guests to use.

Don’t miss: Take a trip to nearby Castle Howard (famously used in Brideshead Revisited) and explore the gorgeous grounds and magnificent stately home.

#07 - Osgodby Cottage

Osgodby Cottage is a handsome double-fronted cottage that dates back to the 18th century and has a peaceful spot in a pretty coastal village near Filey. With a couple of spacious living areas and three large bedrooms, it’s a great choice for a summer family holiday. The traditional country-style kitchen includes an AGA and a Belfast sink.

Why it’s great for families: This quintessential coastal cottage comes with a beautifully big garden that includes outside furniture, a gas BBQ and a large lawned area for garden games.

Enjoy stunning Nidderdale views from this gorgeous country cottage that’s within easy reach of both Masham and Ripon. The master bedroom at Anvil Cottage is incredibly spacious and comes with a super king-size bed (which can be configured as two singles), a free-standing bath and a large en-suite shower room.

The second bedroom (with another en-suite shower room) is ideal for children and up to four of them can fit into the two queen-sized beds. Outside the property is a lovely patio area - you may see the occasional chicken wander past as you enjoy an al fresco lunch!

Why it’s great for families: Anvil Cottage is an authentic slice of the Nidderdale countryside complete with sheepdogs being trained on the owner’s next-door farm.

Don’t miss: Brimham Rocks is known as ‘Nature’s Playground’ and is a great day out for active children who want to burn off some steam.
