York has to be one of the best cities to head to in the run up to Christmas. Not only can you indulge in a spot of retail therapy but there is a variety of festive fun on offer. Take a look at just some of the things you can do in York this Christmas!

York’s traditional Christmas market is open from from the 15th to the 23rd December and you will find a range of chalet’s selling a range of locally made food and gifts. The fair takes place in Parliament Street, St Sampsons Square and Coppergate and is a perfect choice for getting in the Christmas spirit.

After you’ve browsed the stalls in St Nicholas Fair, head to this Nordic pop-up bar on Parliament Street. It is open from the 14th November and closes its doors on 1st January with a selection of Nordic delicacies on offer such as Gluhwein, hot cider and bratwurst. Sample a Victorian Christmas at York Castle Museum from the 25th November until 24th December. Kirkgate, the museum’s traditional Victorian street, will be festively decorated and you may well meet some of its residents. There are also special evening performances of A Christmas Carol on selected dates.
