The festive season is a great time to visit North Yorkshire. Think rustic country pubs with warming log fires, cosy cottages where you can cuddle up on cold nights with lashings of minced pies and mulled wine.

Christmas in North Yorkshire – 2015
York really does go all out for Christmas and there is plenty to see and do when you visit during December. The St Nicholas Market trail includes more than 100 wooden chalets selling an array of items such as Christmas decorations homemade gifts and local produce. It ‘s open until the 23rd December and is dotted round the city with sites including Coppergate and the Shambles Market.
Pay a visit to Thor’s Tipi on Parliament Street and you’ll find yourself transported to a Nordic Christmas with roaring fires, cosy furs and plenty of mulled wine and hot chocolate.
Just outside of York you’ll find Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland which is home to the largest outdoor ice rink in the North of England. It’s handily located next to the York Designer Outlet so you can combine the visit with a spot of Christmas shopping.
Many of the region’s attractions are given a yuletide makeover and are well worth a look over the festive season. RHS Harlow Carr in Harrogate offers winter walks and Christmas stories with Santa while Castle Howard offers twilight visits where you can meet reindeer, listen to carols and enjoy a warming festive drink.
At Dalby Forest, in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors, you’ll find the magical Dalby Forest Courtyard with Father Christmas giving out gifts as well as a small Christmas tree that you can plant and grow at home.
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway has a number of special trains available where for £16 per person you’ll get a one hour journey on board the ‘Santa Express’ where children can meet Santa in his grotto. They get a present and juice drink while you can enjoy a mince pie and alcoholic tipple.
Malton in the Yorkshire Dales is holding a Dickens Festival with horse and carriage rides, traditional Dickensian Treats and guided themed walks through the town while Stokesley is host to a Christmas Farmers Market on the 20th December which includes mulled wine, street theatre and live music.
The pretty town of Helmsley is holding their 4th annual Christmas Tree Festival with decorated trees donated by local businesses and displayed at All Saints Church until 21st December – the theme this year is Pantomime and all proceeds raised will go to charity.
