This charming cottage is in an idyllic location in the peaceful village of Fangfoss. Tucked away down a private lane onto the owner’s farm, you can enjoy the tranquillity of the countryside yet benefit from a pub and shops within 200 metres of the front door. With plenty of space for four guests, this property is bursting with character and is the ideal spot for a couples’ retreat just 12.5 miles from York and 9.5 miles from the edge of the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Step into the open-plan living area where contemporary lighting and lots of windows make it feel fresh and bright whatever the time of day. Get comfortable on the sofas in the lounge area and watch some TV, warming yourselves by the electric fire on chilly evenings. The cottage-style kitchen is perfect for cooking up a storm; pale coloured cabinets mixed with dark worktops create a stylish feel while the breakfast bar fits seamlessly by the window and is perfect for your six guests.

When it’s time for bed, head to the stunning bedrooms; the main bedroom boasts a gorgeous king-size four-poster bed. Soothing decor mixed with contemporary and more traditional furnishings gives this room an abundance of character; there’s even a roll-top bath within the bedroom for added indulgence, so you can soak aches and pains away after a day exploring the rolling hills. There is an en suite bathroom and dressing area.

The second room is a pretty king size room, also enjoying the extra pinch of luxury having its’ own freestanding bath and en suite bathroom.

There is a final third bedroom with a super king size bed. There is a versatile option to create this room in to a twin room. Asking the owner ahead of your holiday, they will be happy to make this arrangement for to best suit your needs. Pretty curtains hanging by the windows block just enough light out yet let some light in so you can wake up naturally, jump in the shower in the en-suite and get ready for a day of adventure.

Outside, a pretty patio area is the perfect spot for al fresco drinks under the pergola; admire the lovely plants as you sip your favourite tipple. You’ll also find on-site a shared games room with a 7’ pool/snooker table, air hockey, football table and full-size table tennis table to pass the time if the weather takes a turn.

Take a stroll around Jubilee Park (485 metres) where there’s play equipment for children of most ages as well as lots of green space to run around in. Further afield is Burnby Hall Gardens (4 miles) where you’ll find water lilies in two lakes around 8 acres of beautiful garden.

If you’re looking for more pubs, cafes, restaurants and things to do, head to York, just 12.5 miles away. The jewel in North Yorkshire's crown, we think York is one of the best short break destinations in England and is a favourite amongst even the most seasoned of travellers. This ancient walled city has been the north's spiritual capital for 2,000 years, but that's not to say it is stuck in the past; York's affluent population and its influx of tourist pounds has helped to create a cultural and commercial oasis. History seeps out of every cobbled street, but the crooked old buildings house a fantastic range of contemporary designer shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.

Everywhere in York is easily reachable by foot as this small but perfectly formed city houses most of its main attractions within the city walls. Middle Ages town planning means it can take quite some time to get your bearings but finding your way around the labyrinth of warped streets is part of the fun. Make sure you take in York Minster, The Shambles, the Railway Museum and Betty's tearoom whilst you're there.

If you are looking for outside space in which to relax, you have the choice of a number of parks and gardens, including Dean's Park next to the Minster, the Yorkshire Museum Gardens and next to the River Ouse, and slightly further afield, Rowntree Park with its children's playground, tennis courts and bowling green.

And what's more, it really is a year-round location. Summer days can be spent lounging in one of the gorgeous parks and in the autumn, York comes alive with shop windows sparkling in the dusky light. Its central location also makes a great base from which to explore the rest of glorious Yorkshire, with the Yorkshire Dales (50 miles), North York Moors (24 miles) and Yorkshire coastline all within easy reach for beautiful walks and adventurous days out.

If walking or cycling is your thing, there are lots of beautiful paths and routes in the area. If you fancy serious hiking, the North York Moors landscape offers some of the best trails in the country. Take a trip up to the top of the high moorlands around Blakey Ridge (35 miles) and breathe in that clear Yorkshire air.

The beautiful market town of Helmsley (28 miles) is within easy driving distance and is well worth a visit. Head 14 miles north to find Malton, another gorgeous market town offering lots of lovely independent shops and cafes to indulge in, or the charming market town of Easingwold is a great option at 23.5 miles from the property.

We had a fantastic week here. The cottage is well appointed, with comfortable beds, lovely bath and good shower. The games room was great fun and the playground 5 minutes walk down the lane is fantastic. If we come back to this part of Yorkshire again, it will our first choice!

A well situated holiday let with a good pub within walking distance. A short walk down the lane in the other direction brought us to the Millenium Park with a dog walking area, child's playground, adult exercise area with zip wire and a lovely walk round a wildflower area.
