Property code: HH054

19th century period property offering stylish accommodation for eight guests, offering spacious gardens in the North Yorkshire village of Darley on the edge of the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Situated in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this stunning 19th-century house is the perfect rural retreat for groups of friends and families. As part of the Yorkshire Dales, Nidderdale has breathtaking moorland scenery interwoven with rolling green hills, making it very popular with walkers and cyclists alike. With trails and paths on your doorstep, you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to getting out and enjoying the fresh, country air. And if you'd like to try something more adventurous, there are plenty of opportunities for climbing, kayaking and other activities nearby. Nestled in the tranquil village of Darley within 300 metres of its 17th-century pub, you can enjoy all the benefits of a rural setting while still being within easy reach of local towns such as Pateley Bridge (6 miles) and Harrogate (10 miles).

This attractive detached home is steeped in history and its sympathetic restoration makes the most of original features such as exposed beams and fireplaces. Classic decor, high-quality fixtures and fittings and contemporary touches make this home classy and comfortable, with the occasional splash of colour adding warmth.

On entering the cottage, you will find a hallway that is ideal for discarding unwanted coats and boots. Leading off from the hallway, is a cosy snug with a TV, which provides an additional space for guests to snuggle up and watch a film. Three steps lead to the large dining room with its parquet flooring and fireplace. Adjacent to this is the well-equipped kitchen with an AGA for that authentic rural feel; doors from here open into the conservatory which affords views of the surrounding countryside. A bistro set allows you to make the most of these views over a morning coffee, whilst planning the day ahead. After a hearty meal, you can retire to the beautiful lounge with its three comfy sofas and soak up the warmth of the roaring wood burner.

Upstairs, there are four bedrooms. The first of these is a delightful super king-size (which can be made up as a twin on request) and then there are two doubles and one twin. Completing the accommodation is a large, classic bathroom finished to a very high standard, where you can either refresh yourself in the shower or relax in the free-standing roll-top bath.

Outside, the garden is a vast lawn area and is surrounded by the rolling green hills of Nidderdale. There is also a patio area with dining furniture for a spot of al fresco dining or stargazing. Guests are welcome to use the stables for storing bikes or other large equipment. Please be aware that there might be times when the owner needs access to the garage. There is off-road parking for up to four cars. Regret no children under seven years, but children under 12 years by arrangement.

Pateley Bridge is a charming little market town very typical of this area of Yorkshire. The main street is peppered with cafes, restaurants, local stores, quality butchers and a wine shop, everything you need to stock up for your stay. You'll also find the self-proclaimed 'Oldest Sweet Shop in England' here dating back to the early 1800s.

Further afield is the grand Victorian spa town of Harrogate, which is regularly listed as the best place to live in the UK. The truly gorgeous Yorkshire town effortlessly combines traditional elegance with contemporary style. And the Duchy suburb is well known as being one of the most desirable postcodes in town.

Best known for its antiques and fine art, Harrogate has antique dealers and galleries around every corner, particularly around the Montpellier Quarter. If buying old paintings and furniture isn't your bag there are a host of other reasons to part with your cash in Harrogate. High fashion outlets nestle alongside lavish interior boutiques, punctuated with enough fine restaurants and cafes to keep you fuelled for weeks.

A visit to Betty's Tearooms is a must and if you have time we highly recommend a session at the famous Turkish Baths. Rejuvenate spirit and soul after a day on the town. If you're travelling with children, Harrogate is famous for its outdoor space with lots of parkland and greenery everywhere including the Valley Gardens.

The RHS Gardens at Harlow Carr (10 miles) are also a fantastic option for a good day out. Guests, both young and old, may also like to visit other picturesque attractions such as the National Trust''s unique Brimham Rocks (3.5 miles) or Ripley Castle and Gardens (9 miles).

We highly recommend a day trip to gorgeous Ilkley (13.5 miles) combined with a visit to Bolton Abbey, 12.5 miles away.

The ancient walled City of York is 31 miles away and well worth the journey as there is plenty to see and do, such as the National Railway Museum, the Jorvik Viking Centre, the Shambles (a labyrinth of cobbled streets packed with shops and eateries) and York Minster Cathedral.

Beautiful cottage in great location. Walking distance to pub with great food, well stocked local shop and lovely footpaths by Darley Beck to the River Nidd. Luxurious and stylish decor. Generous rooms including conservatory with lovely afternoon and evening sun. The table football in the outhouse was an unexpected bonus for our son.
