Plan an exciting group holiday to this impressive, country home at Grantley, in the Yorkshire Dales. Set in 10 acres within the magnificent, undulating countryside of the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this splendid, eight-bedroom property can accommodate 17 guests. Mark a special occasion at the generous York stone house; organise a spell away with your relatives or team up with two or three other families for a magical holiday together.

Discover accommodation that offers a perfect balance between the old and the new, with character features such as exposed stonework and fireplaces, as well as modern touches, including underfloor heating, games areas and Smart TVs.

Wander into the large kitchen/diner to make everyone a cup of tea and dish out the Yorkshire parkin you sourced on your recent shopping trip. You’ll have everything here to whip up hearty holiday feasts, including a dishwasher so everyone can escape the kitchen sink. Serve up in the dining area, where there is ample table space, or throw open the doors onto the terrace to enjoy meals outside on warm days.

Gather in either the lounge or the snug for your evening fun. Light the multi-fuel stove or watch a film on the Smart TV in either room. Play charades, choose a board game or find a quiet corner with your book. Members of your party might also like to challenge each other to a pool match in the games room.

As your lively day comes to an end, make your way to one of the eight enticing bedrooms, each with a gorgeous, rural outlook to wake up to. There’s a bathroom and a shower room, plus four of the bedrooms, at ground-floor level. These include two super-king-size zip-and-link rooms, one of which has an en-suite shower room; a king-size room and a double room. Guests with small children are welcome to make use of an extra single bed and a pull-out single bed in one of the super-king-size rooms.

Venture up to the first floor to choose between four additional super-king-size zip-and-link bedrooms. One of these has an en-suite shower room with WC and also features a single bed that can be pulled out if required. All the super-king beds can be set up as twin rooms if arranged in advance. A family bathroom is also on this level.

Savour the beauty of the outside space at this exceptionally large holiday home. Wander through the extensive grounds on sunny mornings. Relax in the garden area; watch the children run around on the grass and gaze out at the glorious, far-reaching views. Take breakfast, lunch and dinner out in the fresh air if possible. The charming village of Grantley nestles in the Skell Valley, approximately 4.5 miles from the vibrant cathedral city of Ripon.

The city itself boasts a Thursday market, numerous coffee shops, pubs, restaurants and a nice collection of independent shops to explore. The cathedral is smaller than its close neighbour, York Minster, but is still an awe-inspiring sight. In addition, every night for at least 450 years, the Ripon Hornblower has sounded the curfew at 9pm from all four sides of the obelisk in the marketplace, come rain or shine, followed by a 15-minute history of the ceremony and the city – an experience not to be missed! If you are partial to a flutter, Ripon Race Ground has around 15 meets from April to early September. Known as Yorkshire’s Garden Racecourse, it has a distinct atmosphere harking back to a bygone era – traditional tea rooms and bandstands sit alongside the champagne bar.

This area of Yorkshire has enough historical sites to keep you busy for several days: these include Ripley Castle (8 miles), Newby Hall (10 miles) and Norton Conyers (10 miles). Visit lovely Fountains Abbey and the gorgeous Studley Royal Water Garden, 4 miles away – this World Heritage site is deservedly one of the National Trust’s most visited locations. As well as the spectacular ruins of a 12th-century Cistercian abbey, the grounds are home to an Elizabethan Mansion, a medieval deer park and some of the most romantic vistas in the country.

Harrogate, 11.5 miles away, is also an absolute must. Encircled by its famous Stray, or 200 acres, of horseshoe-shaped grassland, the Victorian spa town has a bright and breezy open-air feel and is characterised by its impressive floral displays. As you would expect of such a bustling upbeat town, Harrogate boasts over 300 bars and restaurants together with all the shops, cinemas, parks and gardens you could ever wish for.
