Nestled in the Yorkshire Wolds, within the charming village of High Catton, this cottage offers the perfect rural retreat for those looking to explore Yorkshire’s beautiful rolling hills and delightful market towns. Situated 9.5 miles east of the ancient, walled city of York, its many attractions are only a short drive or bus journey away. However, the picturesque village of Stamford Bridge (1.5 miles) and the market town of Pocklington (8.5 miles) are a little less busy and offer guests a range of shops and eateries. The cottage itself has been lovingly decorated in a vintage, English-cottage style to create a homely feel for its guests. The quirky touches here and there add plenty of character, as do the original features. Living next door, the owners are on hand should you have any questions, but they are keen to ensure guests have privacy during their stay. If you’re lucky, you may find a few treats to welcome you to the house.

On entering the house, you will find the bright and airy, yet cosy, lounge on your right. The sofas provide the ideal place to rest your weary legs at the end of a busy day whilst you snuggle up in front of the roaring wood burner.

Bright and spacious, the separate dining room also has a wood burner and leads into the inviting kitchen with its upcycled, country-cottage furniture and interesting artwork. From here, you can access the delightful conservatory with its solid walls protecting you from the midday sun and the high windows allowing light to flood in.

Upstairs, there are three captivating bedrooms (a double, a twin and a single), each with their own unique features, such as crocheted blankets, rugs and ornaments, but all inviting and restful. Completing this floor is a family bathroom with a shower over the bath.

On the second floor, there is a fantastic games room with a small pool table, a mini-football table and a variety of games, in addition to a sofa; so, when the children need some downtime, they’ll have their own space to escape to.

Across the shared driveway and down a few steps, you will come to your own private, enclosed garden complete with a BBQ and dining furniture for the ultimate al fresco eating experience in the Yorkshire sunshine. There is off-road parking for two cars and a bike store is available.

This property is situated in a good central location to allow guests to discover many of Yorkshire’s highlights. 10 miles from the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which borders the North York Moors, walkers and cyclists have plenty of options when it comes to choosing footpaths and trails. For families, there is the York Maze: Europe’s biggest maize maze (5.5 miles), historic Castle Howard (12.5 miles) and Burnby Hall Gardens (8.5 miles) to explore and enjoy.

York (9.5 miles), the jewel in North Yorkshire's crown, has been considered the North's spiritual capital for 2,000 years but it is certainly not stuck in the past. Its affluent population and influx of tourist pounds have helped to create a cultural and commercial oasis. History seeps out of the labyrinth of cobbled streets, but the crooked old buildings house a fantastic range of contemporary designer shops, cafes, restaurants and bars for you to explore.

Everywhere in York is easily reachable by foot as this small but perfectly formed city houses most of its main attractions within the city walls. Middle Ages' town planning means it can take quite some time to get your bearings but finding your way around the labyrinth of warped streets is part of the fun. Make sure you take in York Minster, The Shambles, the Railway Museum and Bettys tea room whilst you're there.

If you are looking for outside space in which to relax, you have the choice of a number of parks and gardens, including Dean's Park next to the Minster, the Yorkshire Museum Gardens and next to the River Ouse, and slightly further afield, Rowntree Park with its children's playground, tennis courts and bowling green.

And what's more, it really is a year-round location. Summer days can be spent lounging in one of the gorgeous parks and in the autumn, York comes alive with shop windows sparkling in the dusky light. Its central location also makes a great base from which to explore the rest of glorious Yorkshire, with the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and Yorkshire Coastline all within easy reach for beautiful walks and adventurous days out.

Yorkshire is full of thriving market towns such as vibrant Pickering (23 miles), beautiful Helmsley (25 miles) and Malton (14 miles), another gorgeous market town offering lots of lovely independent shops and cafes to indulge in, or charming Easingwold is a great option at 20 miles from the property.

Cottage was lovely. It is in a nice quiet spot but close enough to the main local attractions. Cottage has everything you need and the owners, who live next door were available if there were any issues. Highly recommended.

The cottage was lovely, the attention to its decor made it really special. We were all comfortable in the well equipped house. Communication was excellent from the owner who was just next door which was also reassuring.
