A few miles in the other direction takes you to the pretty town of Kirkbymoorside (2.5 miles) and then on to vibrant and attractive Yorkshire market towns like Pickering (10 miles) and Helmsley (8 miles); both of which have an abundance of good restaurants, tea-rooms and independent shops. Beyond the village lies the North York Moors. A landscape like no other, it's a place of gentle rolling hills of heather, ancient woodlands and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys.

If you want to get away from it all take a trip to the top of the high central moorlands. The famous Blakey Ridge affords some of the best views in the country is just a few minutes' drive from the cottage. And if walking is your thing, you are surrounded by some truly stunning routes. Hutton-le-Hole, quite possibly the most beautiful village in the North York Moors, is just around the corner and you're also close to Castle Howard and York, so lots of choice for day trips.

Please note there are no charging facilities for electric cars - the nearest points are Monks Cross Shopping Park (27 miles) and York (29 miles) but also check online for updated information.

A lovely cottage on the edge of a small quiet village with a pub by the moors and as it is very close to the moors it is handy if you have got dogs or if you simply like the views of the moors or the surrounding farm land.

This was our second stay at Gales House Farm. It was so good the first time we had to return. My wife and I found the cottage very clean and comfortable. It is very well fitted with all the equipment you would need, just like home from home. We arrived to find a gorgeous welcome pack to start the holiday with little touches of kindness in the bedroRead moreoms. There are so many beautiful walks close by and most of them with a pub on route for drinks or food. I would highly recommend staying here. Hide
