Take your time over a morning coffee and the papers, soaking up the gentle sights and sounds of Yorkshire village life.

In addition to the bath there's a luxurious shower room on the ground level. It has a luxury hotel vibe with his and her basins set in solid oak, underfloor heating and a beautiful walk-in shower.

This accommodation has an idyllic location with an abundance of wildlife on its doorstep including deer, birds of prey, owls and highland cattle. Set in the unspoilt and very pretty North York Moors village of Ruston just 50 yards from the boundary of the North York Moors National Park with stunning views of the Vale of Pickering, you can strike out for a walk right from the doorstep. Strolling down to the local tea-rooms for a slice of cake is a pleasure and there's a pub which serves food within a mile of the property. Its position means you are perfectly placed to take in the best of the North York Moors, Yorkshire Coast and York.

Sitting at the eastern foot of the North York Moors the region's dramatic landscape of heather and open moorland is just a short drive away. Somewhat smaller than the Yorkshire Dales, the North Yorkshire Moors still cover an area of almost 600 square miles and like the Dales you can easily find yourself miles from anywhere relatively quickly. But there is something distinctly more civilised and less remote about the Moors. In place of harsh limestone and dramatic peaks you'll find gentle rolling hills of heather, ancient woodland and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. There is a sense of wilderness, particularly on top of the high central moorlands, but its cast in comforting soft focus. We recommend taking the road from Thornton-Le-Dale or Pickering north towards Whitby to experience it in all its grandeur. There are countless pretty villages and towns to explore in the area. The handsome market towns of Pickering and Helmsley are a must, as is the archetypical Moors village of Hutton-le-Hole.

Although you could happily spend the weekend mooching about the independent shops, bars and cafes along Whitby's bustling medieval streets, it's well worth striking out to sample some of the other less known coastal villages nearby. Staithes and Runswick Bay are all within 5 miles of the town, and each have their own unique charm.

We stayed here for our Honeymoon. The new owners Lynn and Richie were very welcoming and friendly. They showed us around the Barn and where we could walk our dogs. The barn was very warm and comfortable, it had everything needed for a relaxing stay! We loved everything and would recommend it to anyone looking for 5* dog friendly accommodation.

We stayed in the Blacksmith's Barn for three nights as a couple with a pair of characterful Maltese dogs. Set in a beautiful and surprisingly accessible location, the Barn is a lovely get away, without being too far away from necessary amenities (Thornton Dale is only about 15 minutes' drive away). With a full kitchen, comfortable sofa space, the Barn was perfect for us to unwind with our fur-babies after the day's adventures Hide
