Throw in breathtaking views and you may just have found your holiday heaven. This dreamy holiday cottage ticks every box; picture-postcard good looks, elegant and generous interiors and one of the most desirable postcodes in Yorkshire. Subject to a complete and outstanding refurbishment, this property has been transformed into the perfect country retreat.

Step inside to discover a spacious sitting room with its pitch-perfect mustard walls and bags of character. Your eye is drawn immediately to the original stone fireplace, now home to a cosy wood burner. You have the choice of two comfy sofas to curl up on and a large TV above the fireplace provides the entertainment. A DVD is available too if you fancy a firelit movie night. At the other end of the room is a grand side table with two glamorous armchairs either side. The perfect spot to settle down by the window and enjoy the light.

Step down into the fabulous kitchen / dining room at the rear of the cottage. A striking mix of contemporary and traditional, this is an amazing space to cook, dine and entertain. The kitchen boasts a large island with warm oak worktops, a wine cooler and lots of storage. A handy tower socket complete with USB ports is cleverly integrated into the island. The kitchen also has a large gas range cooker, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer. There's a nutri-bullet and brand coffee machine too and a sound system for background music - everything you could possibly need!

The dining table is set by the patio doors affording stunning views across the paddocks and Wensleydale beyond. Throw open the patio doors and dine with the sights and sounds of the Yorkshire countryside all around you. There's a further TV in here, perfect for catching up with the news over breakfast.

Both of the bedrooms are upstairs. Make your way up the staircase and admire the Lucy Pittaway art enroute. The first bedroom is exquisite, set at the front of the cottage enjoying lovely views out towards the village. There's a French theme in here with an opulent king-size bed and fabulous wardrobe. Exposed beams and sumptuous furnishings complete the luxurious feel. A TV/DVD are also provided in this room. The second bedroom is at the rear of the cottage and has far reaching views across the Dales. Another king-size bed, this time with a gorgeous grey velvet headboard. A further TV with a games console provides the entertainment in here. Upstairs is also home to an impressive bathroom and additional wet-room. The bathroom is to die for with its free-standing copper bath, walk-in monsoon shower and mirror TV. Next door the stylish wet room also has a monsoon shower head making great use of the good water pressure in the cottage.

Head outside through the patio doors to discover the beautiful rear garden. Looking out over some local stables and Wensleydale beyond, this generous space is fully enclosed and set over various levels. There's a pleasant sheltered terrace complete with a patio table, parasol and chairs so you can settle down to lunch watching the horses frolic around in the fields below. A further raised patio makes the best of the views and offers comfortable rattan furniture to lounge around with on with a glass of something nice. Set in the impossibly pretty village of East Witton in Wensleydale where two rows of chocolate-box style cottages line a large and pleasant village green. The village is framed on its southern side by the imposing Witton Fell and to the north far reaching views of Lower Wensleydale, undoubtedly some of the most breathtaking scenery in the Dales. There are also some great gastro-pubs in the area as well, if you love eating out.

Just a few miles along the road takes you to Middleham (2 miles), another of Yorkshire's loveliest villages. Famous for its castle - once home to Richard III, you can still visit the striking vestiges of the fort to this day. it's also home to several race-horse trainers; you will see and hear the horses being led through the village up to the gallops every day. And to top it off there is a lovely collection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops. Middleham features a charming tearoom if you fancy a treat at elevenses, and several more pubs providing quality food. You can order a take-out pizza from here too. There's also a village store and a couple of bric-a-brac shops to mooch around. Just a few miles out of the village is the fantastic attraction The Forbidden Corner. Regularly voted the best family attraction in Yorkshire, it's also well worth a look even if there are no children in your party.

North of Middleham you'll find the charming market town of Leyburn (9 miles). Leyburn is an archetypical slice of Dales market town life. You'll find traditional shops, pubs and cafes all gathered around the handsome town square, which hosts a busy market every Friday. Leyburn is also home to Tennants, the biggest auction centre outside of London if you fancy picking up a bargain. The nearby historic town of Richmond is similar in many ways and has a lovely setting along the River Swale. There are lots of other pretty villages and stunning natural sights all within close range of the property. Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle are just a few miles away and the gorgeous villages of West Burton and Askrigg are within easy driving distance, so lots of choice for things to do if you want to get out and about. If walking is your thing, the Yorkshire Dales are something of a walker's paradise and you can strike out from the doorstep here without going near the car. And there are plenty of options for cycling too in Tour De France country.
