A cosy retreat nestled in a thriving market town, the garden of this Grade II listed cottage rises up towards Richmond Castle. An ideal base for families looking to enjoy a unique location and catch up in style.

A Grade II-listed cottage, sleeping six guests, set right beside the castle walls in historic Richmond, there's so much to love about this romantic cottage from its serious kerb appeal, stylish interiors and central location. Perfect for families or couples who enjoy having everything on the doorstep. Dating back to the 18th century, the holiday home has original character that also offers every modern comfort. As the name suggests, its set on the cobbled Georgian promenade around Richmond Castle, just off the town's market square with all its cafes, shops and restaurants just a stone's throw away.

Step inside to discover a hallway with period quarry tiling leading you down to the lounge. Looking out onto the cobbled street this cosy room is the perfect mix of contemporary and traditional, with elegant greys offering a backdrop to the cosy leather sofas. At the heart of the room is a cosy wood burner to snuggle up in front of. Plenty to entertain in here from the TV and Wi-Fi to the off-line option of books and board games. Pour yourself a glass of something good and settle down for the night.

To the rear of the cottage is the charming kitchen / diner. The quarry tiles continue in this room with an inglenook fireplace surround lending character to this traditional cottage kitchen. The quirky mix of colours and materials give this space a cosy warm feel, well-suited to this period property. You'll find a mix of grey and cream units, wooden and granite worktops, a Belfast sink and fabulous feature tiles. You will certainly find everything you need to cook up some fabulous meals with top of the range appliances and equipment. All the usual mod cons are provided including a hob, fridge and dishwasher, with a washer, dryer and freezer housed in the outhouse.

The dining table sits at the heart of the kitchen. It's a pleasure dining in here from those lazy breakfasts in your PJs to indulgent dinners which stretch long into the night. A digital radio provides the soundtrack for you.

All of the bedrooms at this property are upstairs, two doubles and a twin which can be reconfigured as a king-size if required. All rooms have that same contemporary/ traditional charm and boast Egyptian cotton bed linen, pocket sprung mattresses and plump pillows, with two looking out over the cobbled walkway, and one with fantastic views of Richmond Castle Keep. The family bathroom is also upstairs and features a shower over the bath and WC. There's lots to enjoy outside too with the discovery of the delightful cottage garden set over several levels. Outside space can be quite rare in central Richmond so it's a joy to explore this charming garden, particularly once you notice the amazing views! There's a choice of seating areas including a bench at the very top right against the castle walls. A BBQ is also provided so you can make the most of those sunny summer evenings too.

Please note due to the number of steps the garden is not suited to those with reduced mobility and children must take extra care. As with most Richmond cottages there is no off-road parking. There is parking available close by, and you can pull up to the front door of the accommodation to unload your bags.

Set right at the heart of Richmond, a charming Georgian market town on the borders of Wensleydale and Swaledale. The back garden rises up to meet the outer walls of Richmond Castle and the front door of the cottage opens out on to the walkway which was cut into the cliff face in the Georgian era when promenading was popular. JMW Turner painted this aspect of Richmond Castle after the cottage was completed but chose to leave the cottage and its neighbour out of his painting.

Richmond boasts an 11th century castle, fine Georgian architecture, an historic Georgian theatre (one of the oldest British theatres still in use) and a large cobbled market square as some of its many attractions. Mosey into town for a cup of Yorkshire Tea at one of the many tea rooms there or pop over for dinner at of the town’s excellent restaurants, some of which are just around the corner. Richmond is also known as 'The Gateway to the Dales' so you can expect stunning Dales scenery within minutes of leaving the town. Peppering this glorious countryside are countless attractive little towns and villages. And if you enjoy a bit of surreal entertainment for the whole family, how about quite brilliant Forbidden Corner (14 miles) near Middleham.

The historic hamlet of Easby, home to Easby Abbey, is just a 1.5 miles from the cottage and is easily walkable along the river. Set on the banks of the River Swale, the Abbey is the perfect spot for a picnic in the summer months. This is a superb area for walkers and cyclists with many routes from the doorstep. The famous coast to coast walking route passes close by. Follow in the cycle tracks of the Tour de France stars who cycled here in the summer of 2014 too.
