This gorgeous cottage is set in a pretty little hamlet, Church Houses, deep in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. This particular dale is famed for its daffodil walk when each spring the river banks come alive with the yellow flowers, said to be planted originally by the monks who settled on this land many hundreds of years ago.

Lesser known than its Yorkshire cousin the Dales, the North York Moors are literally on your doorstep. This glorious expanse of heather-clad countryside is simply stunning, and it's well worth taking some time to explore it properly. The Moors cover an area of almost 600 square miles and like the Dales you can easily find yourself miles from anywhere relatively quickly. But there is something distinctly more civilised and less remote about the Moors. There is a sense of wilderness, particularly on top of the high central moorlands, but its cast in comforting soft focus.

This is serious walking country, so if you enjoy donning the old walking boots and striking out into the countryside this cottage has the perfect location. No need to get in the car at all, there are some truly breathtaking walking trails from the door. And of course, the same is true for cycling. There are also countless picture-card villages to explore within a few miles including the chocolate box villages and attractions of Hutton-le-Hole (7.5 miles), Rosedale Abbey (5.5 Miles), Danby and Goathland to name just a few.

Close by you also have the fantastic town of Helmsley (16.5 miles). At the heart of the town square is a statue of Lord Feversham, a distant ancestor of the current lord who resides in Duncombe Park. This stunning baroque mansion sits on the outskirts of town and is a good choice for an afternoon's sightseeing. If you want to indulge some more architectural desires, the equally grand Nunnington Hall a few miles south east of the town is another grand abode worth a peek. Helmsley is also a foodie’s heaven, packed with exquisite tea-rooms, cafes and organic delis. It's also surrounded by some of the best gastro pubs in the UK. alongside these culinary delights are lots of unique shops, galleries and antique dealers, easily enough to build up an appetite for lunch.

The cottage is in an idyllic location & we were pleased on instant arrival. The cottage was extremely dark n the kitchen with quite a few flies due to the estates bins been directly outside. There was no back door to the garden so pup could not stretch her legs while we unpacked in safety (only to the front entrance which was access to the car parkRead more) and we could not just open the doors to sit outside with a cuppa or glass of wine. The kitchen windows do not open so no ventilation while cooking! Hide
