Dating back to the 1700s, this fabulous two-bedroom property offers spacious and elegant accommodation and is surrounded by some of the most breathtaking scenery in the Yorkshire Dales. Set in the heart of the National Park, it's heaven for walkers and cyclists with stunning routes in every direction. There's an excellent foodie pub and for those who just want to sit back and enjoy the view, almost every room in the house offers a spectacular vista.

This is one of those unique holiday cottages that offer something incredibly special; that elusive combination of a chocolate-box exterior, charming rooms and a picture-perfect location - and all of it presented immaculately. Driving down the Dale you'll find this handsome cottage set right by the river, a really magical setting that sets the tone for your stay.

This fine-looking room boasts a roaring open fire within an impressive stone fireplace and chimney, exposed stone walls and king trusses dating back to the 18th century. Gathered around the fire is comfy seating, perfect for curling up on each evening. There's a TV and DVD player in here if you want to bring along some family favourites, and Wi-Fi is also provided. The mullioned window and window seat in here afford the most fabulous views of the surrounding fells and river.

The farmhouse kitchen and dining hall are on the ground floor. In the sturdy and traditional kitchen, you'll find all the usual mod cons including a dishwasher, oven and hob. There's also a wine-cooler to keep your bottles at the perfect drinking temperature. A separate utility houses a large fridge/freezer, microwave and door to the garden patio. A handsome farmhouse table sits in the centre of the dining space, a lovely spot for dining whatever the time of day.

There are two delightful bedrooms in this pretty holiday cottage, the first of which is a sumptuous master suite set on the ground floor. Split over two levels this large and elegant room offers a separate sitting area with gorgeous views from the large picture windows. A king-size bed sits at the heart of the main bedroom space and exposed walls and trusses give the room lots of character. The family shower room is on ground level and offers underfloor heating with a double shower.

The second bedroom is a very sweet twin room on the first floor, again boasting those original exposed beams overhead.  This room also has the advantage of access to its own shower room and WC on this floor.  Regret no children

There's also a thriving market held in the town every Tuesday, the perfect place to pick up everything from flowers to that night’s dinner. In town you can also hop on the Settle to Carlisle railway, one of the most scenic routes in the UK, which will take you over the well-known Ribblehead Viaduct.

The historic town of Skipton is 18 miles away and offers a host of attractions including its very own castle. There are lots of options here for dining as well as independent shops, making it a great option for a full day out.

It's a true walker's dream here and you are very close to the famous Three Peaks. If you're more of a roamer than a rambler, try a stroll around the grounds of nearby Bolton Abbey (19 miles). These gorgeous ruins provide the backdrop to a particularly beautiful part of the Dales and are well worth a visit.

The smell of heating oil in the cottage was very strong and unpleasant for our stay; we raised this with the owner who said it was normal but they had a CO monitor so not to worry. The broadband speed was slow (btw speed test was 4.68 Mb download and 0.0 Mb upload) was ok for WhatsApp but struggled in other areas. We cannot fault this accommodation and have now stayed there three times. The owners have excellent taste in decor, and have created a relaxing atmosphere with high quality furniture, curtains and cushions. A superb haven to return to after enjoyable walks in the Dales.

A lovely cottage with a pretty riverside location. However, as the location is so well isolated, Summer/Autumn bookings may be a better option than Spring. The weather we experienced denied us the opportunity to do justice to the surrounding vista.
