Dating back over 200 years with views down to Ripley Castle on the horizon, this cottage is a truly gorgeous holiday home set in Nidderdale in the Yorkshire Dales. Within 5 miles of Harrogate, this wonderful property boasts chocolate-box exteriors, elegant interiors and over an acre of grounds to frolic around in. A quintessentially English country cottage with an idyllic location.

The first thing you'll notice about the cottage is the total privacy afforded here. It's completely detached and accessed via a long private lane where sheep mosey along beside you. It has a lovely elevated position backing onto the local estate's woodland and in front of you, a charming view of the surrounding countryside.

Let's step inside this large luxury cottage to find a handy boot room (with its original York stone floors) leading to the stunning and spacious kitchen. There's a kitchen island with bar stools, the perfect spot for a pre-dinner gathering with a bottle of bubbly on the go. As you would expect, the kitchen comes complete with every mod-con you could wish for including an induction hob, American style Fridge and a dishwasher. There is also a separate utility room which houses another fridge/freezer along with a washer/dryer.

To the side of the kitchen, you'll find the formal dining room, a warm and graceful space with exposed beams and views to the front of the cottage. A beautiful French dresser sits contentedly in the corner housing glassware and other dinner party essentials. With the candles lit and the candelabra glowing overhead, it's a hugely atmospheric room for those special family meals.

The large sitting room is next door, with plenty of room for everyone to find their own special spot. With the double wood burner roaring in here, you'll want to stay up late catching up over a bottle of red or two. There's a TV with DVD, as well as books, games to keep you entertained. Wi-Fi is also included. In addition, the cottage has a cosy snug room next to the dining room with another wood burner, warm oak floors and a cosy leather sofa to lounge about on. Perfect if you need some space from the kids and vice-versa! There's also a downstairs cloakroom.

There are Three generous bedrooms in the cottage, the first of which is on the ground floor. There's a double bed in this room and an en-suite shower room with WC. The remaining  bedrooms are upstairs accessed via the original stone staircase. The second bedroom is a delightful twin room with two full-size single beds. The master bedroom sits at the end of the landing, a spacious and character-filled room with a king-size bed, double aspect windows with views out to the woods and an en-suite with a bath and shower overhead. The family bathroom is upstairs too, a bright and airy room with a bath and shower overhead.

And if you love the interiors, just wait until you start to explore the gardens. This well-loved and completely private 1-acre plot has been divided into different areas with something for everyone including a hammock to lounge around on. A delightful patio area with table and chairs is a heavenly spot for dining alfresco and the large lawned areas with the woods as their backdrop are perfect for children to blow off some steam. Throw out a picnic blanket on the lawn and settle down to enjoy the wonderful views from this idyllic country garden.

The cottage has an amazing location. Approached via a long and quiet lane it offers the peace and tranquillity of the Yorkshire Dales countryside with the delights of cosmopolitan Harrogate under 5 miles away. With miles of stunning walks and mountain bike trails literally from the doorstep, the cottage is a haven for lovers of the outdoors.

The nearest village is Ripley which you can see from the cottage. Less than 15 minutes' walk away, Ripley is a gorgeous little Yorkshire village which looks like a set for Downton Abbey. Little has changed in the village for many years, beautiful old stone buildings line the quiet main street and the local village pub beckons you in with its vine-covered exterior and handsome good looks. Serving up great food it's a lovely choice for lunch and dinner. There's an excellent off-road cycle/walking route from Ripley right into Harrogate (5 miles away) if you fancy working up an appetite for one of the town's excellent restaurants.

Harrogate is an absolute must if you're staying here. Encircled by its famous 'Stray' or '1,000 acres' of horseshoe-shaped grassland, the Victorian spa town of Harrogate has a bright and breezy open-air feel and is characterised by its impressive floral displays. And as you would expect of such a bustling upbeat town, Harrogate boasts over 300 bars and restaurants together with all the shops, swimming pools, cinemas, parks and gardens you could ever wish for.

Head 11 miles in the opposite direction and you will find Pateley Bridge, a charming little market town very typical of this area of Yorkshire. The Main Street is peppered with cafes, restaurants, local stores, quality butchers and a fantastic wine shop - everything you need to stock up for your stay. You'll also find the self-proclaimed 'Oldest Sweet Shop in England' here dating back to the early 1800s - little has changed inside since then.

Pateley Bridge sits at the heart of the breathtaking Nidderdale landscape, itself an AONB and immediately adjacent to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. There are bags of local attractions and stunning natural sights within easy driving distance including the much-loved Brimham Rocks, 6.5 miles from the cottage. So, lots of options for day trips!

Lovely cottage, nicely furnished, attractive gardens, beautiful views. Handy for Harrogate, Ilkley, Skipton, Ripon, Pateley Bridge, York. Drive up to the cottage from the road might be difficult for cars with low clearance.
