A perfect retreat for a couple or a small family, this beautiful period cottage offers cosy accommodation in a lovely village which is ideally situated for exploring Yorkshire's wonderful moors and dales.

Escape to this Grade II-listed chocolate-box cottage tucked away in a pretty North Yorkshire village. Just a few miles from historic Richmond, fall in love with its contemporary interiors, cosy open-plan living area and generous en-suite bedrooms with super king-size beds. And for those aspiring artists out there, the owner runs regular painting classes in her studio just a hop, skip and a jump away. With parts of the building dating back to the 18th century, the classic double-fronted stone cottage has serious kerb appeal. Inside, 21st century comforts have been added for that inherent period charm.

Step inside the elegant entrance hall and into the heart of the cottage, an open-plan living area home to the lounge, kitchen and dining table. Elegant grey tones provide a peaceful soothing backdrop with splashes of colour coming from the owner's artwork on the walls. Snuggle up by the wood burner with a glass of something good while you catch up with friends and loved ones. For your evening entertainment, there's a Smart TV & DVD player if you want to bring some of your own favourites. Wi-Fi is also provided.

At the opposite end of the room is the contemporary kitchen with its stone-grey units, sleek marble worktop and striking feature wall. You'll find all the usual mod cons including a dishwasher, ceramic hob, oven and full-size fridge/freezer. There's also a washer/dryer, perfect when you're just back from a bracing walk in the Dales with muddy clothes. Pick up some yummy local Yorkshire produce from nearby Richmond and settle down to eat at the welcoming farmhouse kitchen table – a lovely spot for a hearty Yorkshire breakfast or a romantic evening meal.

There are two surprisingly generous bedrooms in the property, both of which boast en-suite bathrooms, original fireplaces and huge super king-size beds. If you prefer a twin room, the beds can also be configured as singles on request. Similar in style and comfort, bedroom one to the left of the entrance hall has an en-suite bathroom, particularly useful if you have little ones to scrub or if you just enjoy a long hot soak. Bedroom two is accessed via the kitchen and offers a gorgeous en-suite shower room. Both en-suites include a WC and wash basin.

Outside you'll find an enclosed and very pretty walled garden with a sheltered stone patio and lawned area. Patio furniture is provided so you can enjoy lunch alfresco in the warmer months, with only the sound of birdsong to disturb you.

  • 2 bedrooms with super-king-size beds which can be made up as twins on request
  • 2 en-suite bathrooms with bath and WC
  • 1 en-suite shower room with shower and WC
  • Dishwasher, ceramic hob, oven, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, microwave

The property has a great location just a few miles away from the famous Coast to Coast walk. Set between the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors, it's an ideal basecamp from which to strike out and discover these unique Yorkshire locations. Set in a beautiful Yorkshire village, it's a relaxing and peaceful spot to hide away in for a while.

If you're a bit of a foodie there are several excellent dining pubs in the area, while Richmond, a historic market town with much to offer the discerning holidaymaker, is just 8 miles away. Explore the cobbled market square or head up towards Richmond Castle for a slice of Yorkshire history. There are lots of shops, cafes and restaurants to explore, or just take a stroll along the river.

A short drive through Richmond takes you into the heart of the Yorkshire Dales proper. Head up towards Reeth and on towards Hawes in Wensleydale for a true taste of this magnificent countryside. Stop at a country pub for lunch before heading back to the comfort of your large luxury Yorkshire cottage.

The cottage is also just a few miles away from the pretty market town of Northallerton (15 miles) where handsome Georgian houses line the long main street. The wonderful Betty's Tearooms is here as is a fantastic local deli, Lewis & Cooper's Food Emporium and of course the quintessentially Yorkshire department store of Barkers. A few miles in the other direction takes you to the charming town of Yarm set on the banks of the River Tees. Yarm is a cosmopolitan little place, with a host of great shops, cafés bars and restaurants.

To take in the North York Moors, head towards Thirsk (22 miles) and brave it up Sutton Bank - the view from the top is said by some to be the finest in all of England. The gorgeous market town of Helmsley makes for the perfect pit stop and if you feel like something special for lunch make your way to one of the excellent restaurants in the area.
