Gorgeous, romantic, magical. This delightful property near Sandsend is a truly fabulous holiday cottage. With its elusive mix of chocolate-box good looks, beautiful interiors, award-winning gardens and secluded location by the Yorkshire Coast, this lovely house offers an idyllic luxury escape.

Dating back to the 17th century, it is actually the oldest property in the area and has a wonderfully glamorous past. Once home to the American editor of Vogue, it also knows a thing or two about style. The owner has a passion for design and every room has been crafted to perfection with gorgeous furniture, sumptuous fabrics and elegant finishing touches throughout. And with contemporary comforts like WiFi and Freeview available you can still stay connected to the world - if you want to that is! You'll also find a Bose sound system, travel & interior books and DVDs to keep you entertained.

Sleeping up to four adults comfortably, this luxury cottage by the Yorkshire Coast is also perfect for two. Downstairs you'll find a pretty kitchen with dining area, a lovely spot for breakfast or lunch. Next door is a beautiful formal dining room with double aspect views of the gardens. The generous sitting room features a wood burner and further views of the gardens. There is also a double bedroom on ground level and bathroom with shower.

Upstairs leads you to the master bedroom, an exquisite room complete with its own en-suite. Again, double aspect windows afford stunning views of the gardens and coastline beyond. With the sun streaming through in the morning and only the sound of birdsong to wake you, this is a heavenly bedroom for a lazy weekend lie-in. The en-suite comes complete with sea views and a roll-top bath to sink into. To make it extra special you'll find complimentary toiletries.

Outside the property is equally special. The large gardens (over half an acre) have been lovingly crafted into individual areas, each with their own unique appeal and charm. Wander down to the Rose Garden to take your morning coffee or enjoy an al fresco lunch on the patio looking down towards the sea. There is also a divine little summer house where you can escape to, the perfect spot to get into that book you have been meaning to read for months.

And if you can bear to drag yourself away from the cottage, a walk through the surrounding woodland takes you down into Sandsend, a gorgeous Yorkshire seaside village boasting top class restaurants, a fine sandy beach and a world-class spa.

The house is set in the peaceful village of Newholm near Sandsend. Tucked away in a secluded spot in the hills sloping down to the coast, this luxury Yorkshire cottage is also just a few miles from some of the most stunning scenery in the North York Moors.

A 2- mile drive from the holiday cottage takes you to the beautiful North Yorkshire coastline; a heady mix of rugged clifftops, peaceful bays and pretty fishing villages. With long sandy beaches and all the traditional seaside trimmings of yesteryear, you can indulge in a classic English seaside holiday. That's not to say it's stuck in the past, in fact, the Yorkshire Coast's villages and towns combine the traditional with the contemporary effortlessly, with trinket shops and tea rooms sitting alongside upmarket restaurants and champagne bars.

Newholm itself is a peaceful little village. Sandsend is a gorgeous little seaside village within walking distance from the cottage; this fine woodland walk will take you down into the village within half an hour. With its handsome promenade, long stretch of beach, several excellent eating options and world-class day spa, you could happily spend a day there.

The property is also just 3 miles from the beautiful town of Whitby. With its wonderful seaside heritage, excellent restaurants, independent shops and host of bars and cafes along its medieval streets, it has so much to offer the discerning holidaymaker. It's also well worth striking out to sample some of the other coastal villages nearby. Robin Hood's Bay (8 miles) is one of the most popular coastal locations in Yorkshire. The village is a maze of cobbled streets and higgledy-piggledy houses which seem to tumble down towards the sea. Staithes (10 miles) and Runswick Bay (9 miles) are also all within easy driving distance, each with their own unique charm.

Head inland from the cottage and you can be in the heart of the North York Moors within minutes. Take a tour of the impossibly pretty towns and villages in the area or head up on the high moorland of Castleton Rigg (15 miles) - we guarantee on a clear day it will take your breath away.

We fell in love with The Retreat the moment we walked through the gate. The most peaceful setting, with a beautiful garden. One mile to the beach and perfectly located to visit nearby places of interest. We will be back for sure. We miss it already.

Absolutely stunning cottage in a great location. Everything you need is provided, although you do need shampoo etc as the only toiletries provided is small bars of soap.
