There are two bedrooms, both of which boast super king-size beds (one of which can be set up as two singles if required) and stunning en-suites with huge walk-in showers. The first is to the rear of the cottage, a generous room with a lovely aspect looking out towards the woods. French doors lead out to the decked garden and hot tub. The second bedroom is just off the main hallway, another large room with French doors out to the front of the cottage. The calming ambience is continued here with a neutral backdrop. All are simply heavenly rooms that you'll find hard to leave!

The interiors are just one part of what makes this property such a wonderful holiday home. The gardens are just fabulous too, with landscaped wooden decks, beautiful outdoor furniture and of course that spectacular wood-fired hot tub. Set within a Balinese-style pagoda, you can treat yourself to a soak under the stars every evening, with the sound of the brook babbling away beside you. This property has a truly idyllic location. Within a mile’s walk from the sea yet hidden away from the world, you will have a real sense of escape. The wildlife is incredible with owls, badgers and even wild deer spotted from the comfort of your patio. The old railway line which ran from Scarborough to Whitby is now a stunning cycle and walking route and passes near the cottage. It's the perfect choice if you feel like a coastal walk taking in some spectacular scenery and it’s just one of many beautiful walks from your doorstep.

There's a cosy 18th-century inn on the way down to the sea, a nice option for lunch and a glass of wine or two in the evenings. The excellent Ravenscar Hotel is also within walking distance of the property. A little further on, you’ll come to the coast where you will find empty rocky beaches and hidden waterfalls.

Positioned just 8 miles outside Scarborough, its position means you are perfectly placed to take in the best of the North York Moors, Yorkshire Coast and York.

Sitting at the eastern foot of the North York Moors, the region's dramatic landscape of heather and open moorland is just a short drive away. Somewhat smaller than the Yorkshire Dales, the North Yorkshire Moors still cover an area of almost 600 square miles and like the dales you can easily find yourself miles from anywhere relatively quickly. But there is something distinctly more civilised and less remote about the moors. In place of harsh limestone and dramatic peaks, you'll find gently rolling hills of heather, ancient woodland and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. There is a sense of wilderness, particularly on top of the high central moorlands, but it’s cast in comforting soft focus.

We recommend taking the road from Thornton-Le-Dale or Pickering (both 25 miles) north towards Whitby (15 miles) to experience it in all its grandeur. There are countless pretty villages and towns to explore in the area.

The property is also very close to the coast. Much like its Cornish counterpart, the North Yorkshire coastline is a heady mix of rugged cliff tops, peaceful bays and pretty fishing villages. With long sandy beaches and all the traditional seaside trimmings of yesteryear, this is proper bucket and spade territory. That's not to say it's stuck in the past; in fact, the coast's villages and towns combine the traditional with the contemporary effortlessly, with trinket shops and tea rooms sitting alongside upmarket champagne and oyster bars.

This region is best known for the gorgeously gothic town of Whitby (15 miles). Playing host at one time to Romans, Saxons, Celts and Danes amongst others, the town's rich heritage is immediately obvious. Straddling the river Esk and dominated by the 13th-century ruins of St Hilda's Abbey on the East Cliff, Whitby's crooked cobbled streets and picturesque harbour have been a magnet for artists and tourists alike for centuries.

Although you could happily spend the weekend mooching about the independent shops, bars and cafes along Whitby's bustling medieval streets, it's well worth striking out to sample some of the other less known coastal villages nearby. Robin Hood's Bay and Sandsend can be reached within 15 miles and Staithes and Runswick Bay are slightly further at 25 miles.

A delightful, well equipped and comfortable cottage in a quiet, beautiful setting. It was very clean, with a maid service halfway through our two week stay which was appreciated. It was in easy reach of most of the local attractions both coastal and moorland. A perfect place to unwind. We enjoyed some of the best fish and chips ever in Whitby (MagpRead moreie Cafe and Trenchers) and also, for something a bit more upmarket, we would recommend Estbek House (Sandsend) and The Homestead (Goathland). The property is set back from the road and there is no traffic noise whatsoever, very peaceful indeed. Great property furnished and equipped to a high standard. Excellent welcome pack and we loved the hot tub! We can see why we paid a little more but it was maybe a little pricey. The lounge could be made a little less crowded with less furniture and an extra comfy chair for the fourth person. However overall excellent!
