Formerly the village tailor’s, this detached Grade II-listed stone cottage offers period features and spacious accommodation perfect for two couples or a small group of friends looking for a classic Yorkshire Dales break, a haven for walkers.

Welcome to this magical detached Grade II listed stone cottage on the western edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Picture-postcard good looks, cosy welcoming interiors and a gorgeous village complete with two pubs within metres of the property: the quintessential English country cottage.

You'll find this recently converted stone barn nestled on the edge of Dent village making it perfect for walkers or anyone looking to explore this beautiful area of Yorkshire. The building dates back to the 17th century and has a rich history that includes a previous incarnation as a Tailor's Shop for the village.

Downstairs, the cottage has a dining room with table for 4 which leads straight through to the characterful lounge. Original stone floors throughout both rooms are now warmed by underfloor heating with an open fire and wooden beams to add to the country charm in the cosy living room. Take a seat on the comfortable sofa or armchairs and relax watching your favourite programmes after a day out walking in the Dales. Just the spot to unwind and re-charge the batteries…

Head from the living room directly into the contemporary well-equipped kitchen with its granite worktops, shaker style units and wonderful views across unspoilt countryside to the rear. You'll find more oak beams and heated stone floors in here along with an oven, fridge, microwave and induction hob. There's also a kettle, toaster and all the utensils you need to whip up everything from a quick snack to a hearty dinner during your stay. There's a handy separate utility room in the old stables outside the property which includes a fridge-freezer, washing machine and room for your bicycles and boots. A charming stable door leads straight to your own private slice of the Dales and it's edged in traditional dry-stone wall.

Upstairs at the property is a second spacious living room which is the perfect spot to enjoy a morning read or relax with a bit of TV. Doors on each side of this room lead to two lovely bedrooms, one double and one twin, which both have original fireplaces and more traditional oak beams. A plush grey carpet has been fitted throughout making these rooms warm and cosy underfoot. There's plenty of storage too with fitted oak wardrobes in the double bedroom and a chest of drawers in the twin bedroom.

The final room upstairs is the stunning bathroom which comes with a feature slipper bath to really make the most of the amazing setting. Sink into here and soak up the uninterrupted Yorkshire Dales views. There's also a separate walk-in shower and underfloor heating to complete the luxury finish.

The outside of this property is really rather special indeed. Throw open the stable door and you'll discover a patio leading to your private grassed area that's surrounded by the gorgeous scenery of the Yorkshire Dales. The fields by the cottage were even used in a recent Cravendale 'red tractor' milk advert.

There's a table and chair set out here where you can enjoy a morning cuppa or even a spot of al fresco dining. A handy BBQ is also provided for the summer months. A gate at the bottom will take you through one of the owner's fields and leads straight down to the River Dee where you can walk along the Dales Way to nearby Dent. Enjoy a hearty pub lunch before the walk back. Heaven!

The cottage is located in Dentdale and the famous Dales Way runs right the way through this loveliest of valleys.

Dent village itself is around a mile from the cottage and is famous for its pretty white stone buildings and narrow cobbled streets. Take a mooch round here and you’ll find a café, shop, heritage centre and 12th century church. Make sure you sample a tipple from the local Dent Brewery. It’s served in The George and Dragon, one of two pubs in the village.

We recommend walking up to the Grade II Dent station which is the highest mainline station in England and a stop on the famous Settle to Carlisle line. Nearby Sedbergh is a handsome market town with a selection of shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants to mooch around so you won’t be short of things to do. It’s known as ‘England’s Booktown’ and as well as some great book shops you’ll find a book shelter where you can take a book for free (as long as you replace it with another one). Each September Sedbergh holds Sheepfest – a celebration of the sheep and wool industry that once thrived in the town. You can also learn more about this fascinating heritage all year round at Farfield Mill.

Other nearby places to visit include the market town of Kirkby Lonsdale which has made a name for itself in recent years for its high-quality independent shops and excellent restaurants. There’s also plenty of history to explore here to as the town is home to the 14th century Devil’s Bridge and Ruskin View which inspired a 19th century painting by J M Turner.

Other natural sights and pretty villages worth visiting in the Dales include Askrigg, West Burton and Aysgarth Falls. Hawes is also short drive from Three Roods and as well as being England’s highest market town it is home to the famous Wensleydale Creamery.
