Set near beautiful Nidderdale, this lovely converted cottage is the perfect holiday home being in a secluded spot in peaceful countryside, which is also in short driving distance to the local market town of Otley and the spa town of Harrogate.

On a quiet, country lane in the Washburn Valley in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stands this attractive, picture-postcard cottage. With a variety of foliage trailing across the front, it blends in well with the surrounding countryside, and is the perfect place for walking and cycling enthusiasts who are keen to explore what this part of North Yorkshire has to offer. Set against a backdrop of rolling hills, you will be able to immerse yourself in the rural tranquillity whilst recovering from a busy day exploring and plan the next day’s adventure. Only a mile away from the wildlife and scenery of Lindley Wood Reservoir (one of four in the Washburn Valley), there are plenty of walks and trails on your doorstep, but should you want to travel further, there is plenty to see and do. Yorkshire boasts many delightful market towns, such as Otley (3.5 miles), Ilkley (9.5 miles) and Pateley Bridge (15 miles), with a wonderful selection of tearooms, pubs, galleries, museums and independent shops to discover. Many walks and trails also start off in these towns, so a walk in the countryside is never far away.

This is the quintessential English cottage in every way, from its stone facade to its exposed beams, recently installed new windows throughout  and well-chosen soft furnishings, ensuring that guests will immediately feel at home and be able to relax into their holiday. The neutral tones in the cosy lounge help to make it feel bright, whilst emphasising the stone fireplace, wood burner and original beams. The ‘dog snug’ under the stairs is an innovative use of the space and it provides somewhere safe and comfortable to leave your dog.

The country-cottage style kitchen is delightful and well-equipped; once again, light tones have been used to create the feeling of space. There is a dining table for two in the kitchen, which easily extends to provide seating for four when needed.

Upstairs, there are two double bedrooms with subtle, country-style fabrics and light colours used to create a calming feel in both rooms. Across the hall, the stylish, tiled bathroom has a shower over the bath.

Through the gate on the other side of the country lane, a private garden awaits you. The elevated patio, with dining furniture, provides a great spot for a morning coffee or evening glass of bubbly, whilst you admire the variety of mature trees and stunning views beyond. There is also a pond, but please note that it is uncovered. There is off-road parking for two cars.

  • 2 bedrooms - 2 doubles
  • 1 bathroom
  • Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washer/dryer
  • Wood burner (first basket of logs included)
  • Off-road parking for 2 cars
  • 2 dogs welcome, partially enclosed garden across from the property
  • Pub and shops 3 miles
  • TV/DVD in lounge
  • This property will be decorated for Christmas
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00, unless otherwise stated in your arrival details
  • 2 dogs allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week

The grand Victorian spa town of Harrogate is regularly listed as the best place to live in the UK. The truly gorgeous Yorkshire town combines traditional elegance with contemporary style effortlessly. And the Duchy suburb is well known as being one of the most desirable postcodes in town.

Best known for its antiques and fine art, Harrogate has antique dealers and galleries around every corner, particularly around the Montpellier Quarter. If buying old paintings and furniture isn't your bag, there are a host of other reasons to part with your cash in Harrogate. High fashion outlets nestle alongside lavish interior boutiques, punctuated with enough fine restaurants and cafes to keep you fuelled for weeks.

A visit to Bettys tea room is a must and, if you have time, we highly recommend a session at the famous Turkish Baths. Rejuvenate spirit and soul after a day on the town. If you're travelling with children, Harrogate is famous for its outdoor space with lots of parkland and greenery everywhere. The RHS Gardens at Harlow Carr are also a fantastic option for families.

Harrogate is also very close to the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors so makes the perfect base from which to explore the glorious Yorkshire landscape and its many stunning natural sights. The breath-taking Nidderdale is 16.5 miles north of the property and heading south-west, you will be driving through some of the most dramatic Dales scenery. Guests, both young and old, may also like to visit other picturesque attractions such as RHS Harlow Carr (6 miles), the National Trust’s unique Brimham Rocks (13 miles) or Ripley Castle and Gardens (10 miles).

The ancient walled city of York is 29 miles away and well worth the journey as it has plenty to see and do, such as the National Railway Museum, the Jorvik Viking Centre, The Shambles (a labyrinth of cobbled streets packed with shops and eateries) and York Minster Cathedral.

A lovely little cottage in a great location. Rural but not isolated. Great walks on the doorstep. Lots of birds and wildlife including deer. Nicely furnished. Good wifi connection. Lovely, peaceful garden. (The garden is opposite the house so just be aware of crossing the lane as cyclists do tend to whoosh around the corner!)

We had a great 3 nights staying at Ivy Cottage. Ideal location for people wanting to visit Leeds, Bradford or Harrogate, but prefer being in the countryside, rather than in a town/city. Ivy Cottage is well equipped and has everything you need. Its a relatively small cottage, but added to the charm. Would definitely consider staying there again.

Ivy Cottage is lovely and homely, extremely well equipped, do search it is all there, it was comfortable for the 2 of us and our large dog, very much the rural cottage, but it is very small. Right on the roadside on a blind bend, can be busy with traffic, much care is needed, plus the garden being opposite the cottage taking food and drinks into itRead more was too challenging for us. The wine, choccy biscuits, milk and doggy treats were much appreciated. Hide
