Stunning luxury detached chapel conversion offers a wonderful, quirky and unique setting for family gatherings, celebrations and special occasions, surrounded by spectacular Yorkshire countryside. As featured on BBC2 The Hairy Bikers go North Series 1: Episode 5

In the peaceful hamlet of Shaw Mills in North Yorkshire, this exclusive property is the ultimate house for a special reunion with friends or family. Once a peaceful chapel, there is nothing quiet about this property now, as it has been lovingly converted and renovated to create a shrine to all things rock ‘n’ roll. The property has been featured in The Yorkshire Post Saturday Magazine, Yorkshire Living, Harrogate Living, and Prima Magazine. Located within a few miles of Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with its rolling hills, dramatic moorland and Yorkshire stone walls, you and your guests will have plenty of choices when it comes to exploring on foot, by bike or by car. At the end of the day, when you don’t feel like cooking, there is a pub in neighbouring village Bishop Thornton (1 mile) dine at the Station Inn at Birstwith or you could head into the spa town of Harrogate (6.5 miles), which boasts an array of eateries, independent shops and amenities.

In this collector’s paradise, vintage metal signs adorn the walls, one-off pieces of furniture fill the rooms and every shelf and corner is jam-packed with interesting artefacts, all adding charm and a humorous twist to this beautiful building. Original chapel features add yet another layer of character, from the arched, stained-glass windows to the panelled walls and ceiling in the master bedroom. The baby-grand piano, various other pianos/keyboard and the jukebox illustrate the emphasis on music and offer alternative entertainment to the Smart TVs in the dining area, lounge and bedrooms.

A large open-plan living area can accommodate everyone, whether they’re cooking, eating or relaxing. The kitchen is well-equipped, including an American-style fridge/freezer to fit in with the overall theme of the property, and even has its own bar area. There is a further lounge to relax in with big comfy sofas, a wood burner and sumptuous soft furnishings.

A number of staircases lead up to various bedrooms, one of which is on a mezzanine floor above the living area. This bedroom has original wood panelling on the vaulted ceiling and walls to add a quirky twist, as well as an en-suite and dressing room through two original doors. There are five bedrooms across the ground and first floor (one super-king, two kings, one double and one twin); they all have their own unique style and are finished to a very high standard. In addition to the three en-suites, there is a large, luxurious family-size bathroom with a spacious shower and a separate, free-standing bath. For those wanting a little more privacy, the double bedroom is accessed up another set of stairs, with limited headroom, which has its own basic cooking facilities including a fridge and gas hob, lounge area and en-suite shower room and WC.

Outside, to the rear of the property is a large patio area with garden furniture and a BBQ – the ideal spot for an al fresco lunch or dinner. In addition to this, there is almost an acre of enclosed land overlooking fields, which is the perfect place for the kids/animals to let off steam whilst the adults relax. Additional seating in a separate enclosed garden, accessible from the vestry, is a great little sun trap to escape to. There is further seating to the front of the house, along with  private off road parking for two cars, and  additional  off-road parking for three cars, accessed via the driveway to the rear of the property.

The grand Victorian spa town of Harrogate (6.5 miles) is regularly listed as the best place to live in the UK. The gorgeous Yorkshire town effortlessly combines traditional elegance with contemporary style. Best known for its antiques and fine art, Harrogate has antique dealers and galleries around every corner, particularly around the Montpellier Quarter. If buying old paintings and furniture isn't your bag, there are plenty of other reasons to part with your cash in Harrogate. High fashion outlets nestle alongside lavish interior boutiques, punctuated with enough fine restaurants and cafes to keep you fuelled for weeks.

A visit to Bettys Tearooms is a must and, if you have time, we highly recommend a session at the famous Turkish Baths. Rejuvenate spirit and soul after a day on the town. If you're travelling with children, Harrogate is famous for its outdoor space with lots of parkland and greenery everywhere. The RHS Gardens at Harlow Carr (9 miles) are also a fantastic option for families.

Harrogate is also very close to the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors, so makes the perfect base from which to explore the glorious Yorkshire landscape and its many stunning natural sights, such as the National Trust’s Brimham Rocks (5 miles), a collection of amazing rock formations. We highly recommend a day trip to gorgeous Ilkley (18 miles) combined with a visit to Bolton Abbey, 17 miles away.

You may also enjoy the vibrant cathedral city of Ripon (10 miles) that boasts a Thursday market, numerous coffee shops, pubs, restaurants and a nice collection of independent shops to explore. The cathedral is smaller than its close neighbour, York Minster, but is still an awe-inspiring sight. In addition, every night for at least 450 years the Ripon Hornblower has sounded the curfew at 9pm from all four sides of the obelisk in the market place, come rain or shine, followed by a 15-minute history of the ceremony and the city – an experience not to be missed! If you are partial to a flutter, Ripon Race Ground has around 15 meets from April to early September. Known as 'Yorkshire's Garden Racecourse' it has a distinct atmosphere harking back to a bygone era – traditional tea rooms and bandstands sit alongside the champagne bar.

This area of Yorkshire has enough historical sights to keep you busy for a week with Ripley Castle (3 miles), Newby Hall (11 miles) and Norton Conyers (12 miles). Visit lovely Fountains Abbey and the gorgeous Studley Royal Water Garden, 6 miles away – this World Heritage site is deservedly one of the National Trust's most visited locations. As well as the spectacular ruins of a 12th-century Cistercian abbey, the grounds are home to an Elizabethan Mansion, a medieval deer park and some of the most romantic vistas in the country.

York is also within easy reach (28 miles) and a day-trip to this beautiful medieval city is well worth it.

Exceptional property. Quirky decor. One of the most unusual properties to stay at due to all the music and car memorabilia. Would highly recommend this property to others.

This is a fun property in an old chapel so don't expect it to be modern except in a technology sense. It delivers what was expected from the website. A good base to explore Yorkshire and we shall remember a great holiday for a long time.
