This charming cottage in the delightful village of Muker in the Yorkshire Dales National Park is the ideal base for families looking to explore the surrounding countryside. With the River Swale running through the village, it is at the heart of Swaledale, which is one of the northernmost valleys in the national park - famous for its heather-clad moors, picturesque waterfalls and, in particular, its meadows of wildflowers. People come from all over the world to see the fields come alive with every colour under the rainbow, a unique phenomenon due to the fact that the local farmers don't use chemicals in the fields. Calendar highlights include Swaledale Festival, which takes place in May, and sees two weeks of amazing music, art, walking and culture, whilst the Muker Show takes place every September. Despite its rural location, the village has its own pub, cafe, shop and art gallery, which makes it a great place to return to of an evening when you're too tired to cook. Guests also have the choice to explore the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which lies just north of the property and offers yet more stunning landscapes and a range of wildlife to discover.

Sympathetically renovated, this traditional cottage has many original features and natural materials on show which combine with neutral palettes and contemporary decor to create a stylish, comfortable home.

On entering the property, you'll find yourself in the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner with its stone floors, exposed beams and inglenook fireplace. With a wood burner as a focal point, the lounge is a comfy place to snuggle up of an evening, whilst the kitchen is well-equipped for conjuring up a meal or two. The dining area is tucked away in front of a window with natural light flooding the space. There is also a utility room on the ground floor. Underfloor heating warms the stone floor for added comfort.

Upstairs, there are three gorgeous bedrooms all decorated in calming colours that add a sense of light and space. There is a king-size room with an en-suite shower room, as well as a twin and a single room. Completing the accommodation is a wonderful contemporary family bathroom.

Outside, there is an enclosed courtyard garden to the front of the patio where you can enjoy a morning coffee or an evening meal whilst watching the world go by and chatting to the locals.

I first visited Muker 30 years ago and have visited many times since. This was my first stay in Brookside Cottage and I definitely intend to return. The cottage is in a great location 3 doors from the Pub and next to the Gallery. Parking opposite didn't seem to be a problem particularly if you time when to arrive to avoid when the village is busiesRead moret with visiting traffic. The cottage was well equipped for self catering and was warm enough even when very cold outside. My 14 month granddaughter was with us and she was crawling and trying to walk. With careful supervision she was able to manoeuvre around without drama and had cracked walking by the end of our stay. We had to be careful of the staircase as no stair gate and only use the log burner (which was very good) once she had gone to bed. Over all the cottage was great and we enjoyed our stay. Hide

Lovely cottage, superb location, super-comfy beds, well equiped kitchen and good bathrooms. Superb location for exploring straight from the house. With the bus stop right outside, we hardly used the car. Friendly pub less than a minute away. What else do you need for a week in the Dales?!

Super rain shower in en suite. Very comfortable and cosy. Luxurious beds. Lovely linen on beds. Special surprise welcome treats. A genuinely luxury place to stay especially when the weather isn't too good outdoors. 5 Star property easily and I've stayed in lots.

Excellent cottage to stay in. So comfortable, well equipped and convenient for walking and biking. The pub next door provided tasty suppers so only bothered to cook once! Would love to return.

Well appointed, characterful cottage in a lovely little village, with a pub, cafe, shop, church & art gallery. Close to some great walking trails in Swaledale and over in Wensleydale. Only downside is lack of a garden or countryside views.

Lovely cottage, very clean & good facilities throughout. Excellent placement, a couple of doors from the local co-operatively run pub & walks in all directions with beautiful scenery. This is the second time we have visited.

Beautiful house which was spotlessly clean. Great to have some outside space as another house we have stayed in opened right onto the road. Kitchen was very well equipped and had everything we needed. The sitting & dining areas were bright & comfortable - having a utility room meant we could keep the place clutter free while we there. Although therRead moree is no designated parking place we never had a problem finding a spot. Numerous walking opportunities & a great pub & tea shop on your doorstep! Hide
