This beautiful converted barn is a perfect peaceful retreat to gather with Friends and Family surrounded by picture postcard quaint villages and North Yorkshire Dales countryside.

This gorgeous stone-built property is in an idyllic location in the pretty village of Hipswell, just 3 miles from Richmond. Tucked away from the road yet far from isolated, you can enjoy the peace and quiet of a countryside location but have the benefit of a pub, takeaways and three supermarkets within 1 mile. With ample space for eight people, this former barn is bursting with character and boasts a beautiful garden with established trees and glimpses of the hills, reminding you that you’re just outside the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park. And if you’re part of a larger party, you can book this home with another house that sleeps five.

Leave your muddy walking boots behind in the inviting entrance hallway where you’ll instantly feel at home among charming exposed stone walls and earthy tiles. To your right, the kitchen will impress you with high open vaulted ceilings and lots of light; the chef of your group can cook up a storm while you chat to them from the island with a glass of wine. Grab a quick bite from the rustic breakfast table, or head through to the open-plan living area to enjoy a sociable meal at the dining table. Sit up there chatting for hours or challenge each other to a boardgame.

If you’d rather get comfortable, retire to the lounge area where vaulted ceilings and wood beams beckon you to sink into the sofas in front of the wood burner, watching a film on the Smart TV together or losing yourself in a good book. On sunny days, throw open the patio doors and let the light flood in from the garden; you can even dine alfresco by sizzling up a BBQ among the wonderful plants and trees, and the children can run off their energy on the lawn. Maybe they will even need to take a rest in the hammock near the bottom of the garden – but watch out for the Mill Race stream that runs under the property.

Across the hallway, the main king-size bedroom awaits two lucky guests; this huge bedroom has direct access to the garden. Exposed beams, wooden furniture and calming, neutral colours ensure you get a tranquil nights’ sleep. Wake up with an invigorating shower in the wet room, or head to the bathroom across the hall and enjoy an indulgent soak in the roll-top bath. The second bedroom on the ground floor is cosy and welcoming with pretty pastel colours and is perfect for two.

Climb the stairs to the final two bedrooms, where exposed stone walls, rich wooden beams and vaulted ceilings create a relaxing ambience; these bedrooms share a stunning bathroom with another roll-top bath and a separate shower for the ultimate spa-like experience after a long day out walking in the Dales. Children will love their little hideaway in the twin room, while the king-size room has a serene atmosphere with soothing green tones and a sofa to snuggle up on as you catch up with some TV before bed.

  • 4 bedrooms - 2 king-size, 1 double and 1 twin

Visit the historic town of Richmond to wander its cobbled marketplace and pretty streets; to see its castle and dine out. Meander along the banks of the River Swale and spend time at nearby Easby Abbey, approximately 4.5 miles from your base. These impressive ruins sit on the eastern bank of the river and date back to the 12th century. Go walking, climbing or cycling in the Yorkshire Dales. Visit spectacular Aysgarth Falls, which are 15 miles away, and feature a triple flight of waterfalls against a backdrop of woodland. Keen walkers will also be eager to experience the landscapes of the North York Moors, about 16 miles away, and the North Pennines, approximately 25 miles away.

Probably the most comfortable and well equipped cottage I've ever stayed in. It was ideally suited for a family group over Christmas - extremely spacious, beautifully decorated, cosy and comfortable. The location worked very well for us - hidden away so that you feel very much in the countryside, but within easy reach of shops and travel routes. This is a beautiful property. It is very well presented and kitchen is fully equipped. Our only issue, which we raised with the owner, is the temperamental internet connection. This prevented us from accessing tv channels which was disappointing for my 80 year old mum who was staying with us. The owner was apologetic and said it is to do with the lRead moreocation of the property and the thick walls...they were using a cheap internet provider so with a suitable upgrade this could be remedied. Mill Race is a fantastic holiday home. So cosy and beautifully furnished, it provided me and my family with a wonderful home-from-home.
