Ideal for older families and couples wanting a relaxing break this property offers stylish furnishings and spacious accommodation in a picturesque Yorkshire village.

This fabulous property is in an enviable location just 2 miles from footpaths running alongside the River Derwent. Tucked away just off the main street, you can enjoy a tranquil countryside location but have the benefit of a pub and a micro-brewery within 350 metres of the front door to keep you busy in the evenings. With plenty of space for six guests, this cottage is brimming with contemporary character and is a welcoming home-from-home to return to after a long day out exploring the stunning local area.

Drive up the gated driveway through lush countryside and step through the front door to be greeted by a welcoming entrance hallway followed by a spacious open-plan living area. The lounge is light and airy with fresh colours that blend perfectly with the dark-framed patio doors that look out to the garden. Snuggle up on the sofas in front of the wood burner and watch your favourites on the Smart TV, or perhaps delve into one of the books on the bookshelf. The patio doors flood the room with natural light, and you can spend sunny afternoons looking out towards the mature garden.

There’s no need to worry about returning home muddy since there’s a compact utility room with a washing machine available off the hallway to get everything clean after long hikes and adventures. You’ll also find a handy separate WC downstairs, so you don’t have to traipse up the stairs through the bedrooms.

The huge kitchen is a culinary guest’s delight with everything you need to cook up a storm surrounded by trendy downlighting and dark, sleek worktops for a high-end feel. Sit at the breakfast bar with a glass of wine as the chef cooks, or get stuck in and help with the prep since there’s no such thing as too many cooks in here. Enjoy long, sociable meals at the dining table that will fit everyone comfortably; you could even grab a boardgame from the lounge area and spend the evening chatting and challenging each other until it’s time for bed.

Climb the stairs to the bedrooms and choose your favourite; every room has clean and crisp, soothing decor with added homely touches and splashes of colour to add a little bit of indulgence to your slumber. The king-size zip-and-link room, which can be made up into twins on request, features lovely wooden beams and double windows to create an airy feel. Each bedroom has its own en-suite so you’ll avoid queues in the morning; the two king-size rooms have contemporary shower rooms while the double room benefits from a shower over the bath that’s perfect for a relaxing soak after a long day out walking. Just watch your head on the sloping ceiling!

Outside, a delightful patio area is the ideal spot for al fresco dining; spend long warm evenings chatting away with your guests and your favourite evening tipple. Wander through the impeccably-kept garden and see what plants you can spot. Spend peaceful moments by the fenced pond as you reflect on the wonderful time you’ve had in this fantastic holiday home.

If you’re a golf fan, make sure you bring your clubs as there’s a course just 3 miles away. For those of you that aren’t bothered about teeing off, there’s also a spa on site that might take your fancy. But for shops, restaurants, museums and more, York (21 miles) is the place to go.

The jewel in North Yorkshire's crown, we think York is one of the best short break destinations in England and is a favourite amongst even the most seasoned of travellers. This ancient walled city has been the north's spiritual capital for 2,000 years, but that's not to say it is stuck in the past; York's affluent population and its influx of tourist pounds has helped to create a cultural and commercial oasis. History seeps out of every cobbled street, but the crooked old buildings house a fantastic range of contemporary designer shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.

Everywhere in York is easily reachable by foot as this small but perfectly formed city houses most of its main attractions within the city walls. Middle Ages town planning means it can take quite some time to get your bearings but finding your way around the labyrinth of warped streets is part of the fun. Make sure you take in York Minster, The Shambles, the Railway Museum and Betty's tearoom whilst you're there.

If you are looking for outside space in which to relax, you have the choice of a number of parks and gardens, including Dean's Park next to the Minster, the Yorkshire Museum Gardens and next to the River Ouse, and slightly further afield, Rowntree Park (20.5 miles) with its children's playground, tennis courts and bowling green.

And what's more, it really is a year-round location. Summer days can be spent lounging in one of the gorgeous parks and in the autumn, York comes alive with shop windows sparkling in the dusky light. Its central location also makes a great base from which to explore the rest of glorious Yorkshire, with the Yorkshire Dales (56 miles), North York Moors (37.5 miles) and Yorkshire coastline all within easy reach for beautiful walks and adventurous days out.

If walking or cycling is your thing, there are lots of beautiful paths and routes in the area. If you fancy serious hiking, the North York Moors landscape offers some of the best trails in the country. Take a trip up to the top of the high moorlands around Blakey Ridge (48.5 miles) and breathe in that clear Yorkshire air.

The beautiful market town of Helmsley (45 miles) is within easy driving distance and is well worth a visit. Head 28.5 miles north east to find Malton, another gorgeous market town offering lots of lovely independent shops and cafes to indulge in, or the charming market town of Easingwold is a great option at 37 miles away.
