A haven for walkers and nature-lovers, this cosy cottage is a comfortable base for exploring some of the Dales villages and the surrounding countryside.

Tucked away in the sleepy hamlet of Healaugh in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this traditional stone cottage is the perfect hideaway for families and couples. Surrounded by undulating hills and breathtaking natural beauty, it’s the perfect property for those who love the great outdoors and want to explore on foot or by bike. The rural location offers beautiful views and unbridled tranquillity, but despite the quiet surroundings, you are only 1.5 miles from Reeth, which is often referred to as ‘the capital of Swaledale’. In addition to stunning panoramic views and scenery, Reeth also has also has a range of shops and restaurants to choose from and a regular market. This area of Yorkshire is popular with both walkers and cyclists, boasting a number of trails and routes to choose from. Other outdoor activities are available at centres in the area, such as fishing, canoeing, caving, climbing, abseiling.

Brimming with charm and character, this beautifully presented cottage has been sympathetically restored. In keeping with the building’s heritage, natural materials, such as wood and stone, are used throughout, as are the original features that have been incorporated into the overall look. Neutral tones bring a relaxing atmosphere to each room, whilst traditional-style fixtures and fittings add class.

Stepping into the hall, you’ll find the flag-stoned floor is the perfect place to discard muddy boots and coats. Down the step and at the end of the hall is the cosy, welcoming lounge – the ideal place for snuggling up of an evening in front of the wood burner. The hub of the house is the farmhouse –style kitchen/diner, which is well-equipped with everything you’ll need to cater for you and your guests. The dining table offers plenty of seating for everyone to dine or socialise together.

Upstairs, there are two gorgeous bedrooms: one king-size and one twin. Again, modern styling and original features sit side-by-side to create a unique and welcoming feel. Completing the accommodation is a large family shower room with basin and WC.

Heading outside, you’ll appreciate the stunning views from the enclosed garden to the rear. Enjoy a spot of alfresco dining on the patio against a wonderful backdrop, whilst the kids enjoy running around the lawn. There is roadside parking available outside the property or on the adjacent village green.

  • 2 Bedrooms - 1 king-size and 1 twin room

We have stayed at this property in May this year and again last week. The cleanliness and quality inside the cottage is evident from the moment you walk in. The views are amazing from inside and the back garden . Reeth is less than 30 minute walk along the river where there are some great pubs all serving good food.

We had a fabulous stay. The cottage was very comfy and well equipped compared to other cottages we have stayed in recently. The garden and terrace were both tranquil places to start the day over a leisurely breakfast. A great base for exploring Swaledale with some lovely walks from the front foor.

Lovely cottage. Garden is secure as long as your dog cant jump over a 4ft fence at the bottom of the garden. Its well placed for Reeth and some beautiful walks. Make sure you take smaller bags as the parking is on the small grassy area about 30m away, but you cant hear road noise in the house. Was a really comfy stay and were missing it already. Fabulous property in the most spectacular location. Skoggins is incredibly comfortable, so much so, we curtailed a little of our walking to enjoy the cottage fully. On that note, the walking in the area and directly from the cottage is fantastic, not having to get in the car and drive is an added bonus.

Lovely cottage, in a perfect location. Nice walks along the river to Reeth. Kids and dog enjoyed swimming in the river next to the stepping stones which are only a few minutes walk from the cottage. Lovely enclosed garden for the dog. Reeth had nice places for ice-cream, coffees, cakes and several pubs which did good food.
