Come and discover the North Yorkshire Moors and Howardian Hills with a stay at this bijou lodge tucked away in a quiet location in the pretty village of Welburn.

Enjoy a family or couples’ break to this lovely timber lodge. Boasting a thriving cafe and a friendly pub, the village of Welburn is surrounded by the Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that will appeal to adventure seekers and gentle amblers alike. Embrace scenic walks throughout this windswept landscape, discovering lakeside trails and winding woodland paths before refuelling with a hearty meal and a fireside seat in a traditional country pub.

Providing a sanctuary for four guests, your accommodation is carefully finished with an open-plan living space that utilises a combination of classic and contemporary. Throw a log on the wood burner and recline on the sofas with a hot drink, or uncork a bottle of wine and switch on a film to enjoy together. Whipping up dishes in the pretty kitchen equipped with integrated appliances such as a slim dishwasher, fridge/freezer, electric oven, hob, microwave and coffee machine.

A step leads up to the sleeping quarters, two bedrooms perfectly appointed for slumber. Both beds are king-size, but one of them can be converted into two small 2’6” single beds, an excellent option for the youngest guests in your party. Soothe tired limbs with a dip in the bath, or freshen up in the shower. You’ll feel delightfully warm even on the coldest nights thanks to the underfloor heating, and every visitor will receive a greeting in the form of a welcome pack on arrival.

Let the outside in and throw open the bi-fold doors for drinks on the patio on balmy summer evenings, or perch on the garden furniture to watch the birdlife flittering amongst the nearby trees. Fire up the BBQ for a chargrilled supper or take advantage of your private pizza oven. There’s an outside WC in the handy utility room that also features a washing machine and tumble dryer to take care of any muddy coats and shoes.

The welcoming owners are based next door but you are guaranteed privacy, and their resident chickens and guinea fowl can be heard pottering about in the adjacent yard. Off-road parking is available for two cars, and you’ll be within easy reach of the local shop, pub and cafe.

Covering over 79 miles of North Yorkshire’s glorious countryside, the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a tapestry of farmland, ancient woodland and gently sloping hills home to chocolate-box villages and grand historic buildings such as the marvellous Castle Howard and the Yorkshire Arboretum. This unique landscape is bordered by the North York Moors and the Vale of York and stretches between Helmsley and Coxwold, offering a plethora of outdoor activities such as walking, wildlife spotting and historic days out.

Situated 6 miles north east is Malton, a destination brimming with foodie-favourites including field to fork restaurants and quaint cafes. A 15-mile drive will bring you to York, the jewel in North Yorkshires crown. This ancient walled city has been the North’s spiritual capital for 2,000 years, but thats not to say it is stuck in the past; Yorks affluent population and its influx of tourist pounds has helped to create a cultural and commercial oasis. History can be found in every cobbled street, but the crooked old buildings house a fantastic range of contemporary designer shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.

Everywhere in York is easily reachable by foot as this small but lovely city houses most of its main attractions within the city walls. Middle Ages town planning means it can take quite some time to get your bearings but finding your way around the labyrinth of streets is part of the fun. Make sure you take in York Minster, The Shambles, the Railway Museum and Bettys tearoom whilst youre there.

If you are looking for outside space in which to relax, you have the choice of a number of parks and gardens, including Deans Park next to the Minster, the Yorkshire Museum Gardens and next to the River Ouse, and slightly further afield, Rowntree Park with its childrens playground, tennis courts and bowling green.
