Book yourselves a stay in the picturesque Holme Valley and make the most of a superb break at this inviting holiday apartment for two. Relax and take in the far-reaching, glorious field and hill views from the property itself and plan days out in the fresh air, exploring the picturesque surroundings on foot or by bicycle.

This delightful, one-bedroom apartment, in the West Yorkshire village of Meltham, is ideal for two guests and one very contented canine companion. It could be perfect for a dog-loving couple seeking a romantic retreat in stylish accommodation, which also has fabulous access to the great outdoors.

Find your way into this bijou and pristine apartment via the shared entrance on the ground floor. Venture up to the first floor and open the front door of your holiday home to find cleverly designed, light accommodation, centring on an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. Return home after your long walks to put your feet up in the lounge area, over a cup of tea and perhaps a movie on the Smart TV. Read a magazine, enjoy your book for a while or head over to the kitchen space to whip up a tasty dinner. Perch at the breakfast bar with a glass of wine while your Yorkshire puddings and tatties are roasting, then dine together here too.

As dusk falls, make your way into the double bedroom for a good night’s sleep then wake up to see the mist rising over the moors. Enjoy a shower in the morning before sitting down to a hearty breakfast and heading out for a walk in the morning sunshine.

This property comes with parking for one car in the pub car park close by.

Set on the fringes of the Peak District National Park, Meltham is in an ideal location for anyone eager to experience the scenic Colne Valley, some 2.5 miles away, or Marsden Moor, 4 miles away. Highly popular with walkers, this West Yorkshire beauty spot encompasses a 5,500-acre National Trust estate. Pick up the Pennine Way here too: this is a long-distance route that runs for almost 270 miles, from Edale, in the Peak District, up through the Yorkshire Dales and Northumberland National Park to Kirk Yetholm, just inside Scotland. It crosses Marsden Moor, which is a popular starting point for walkers.

Meltham is also an excellent location for those who also like to indulge in a few town – as well as country – pursuits. Treat yourselves to a romantic dinner for two, for example, in either Halifax or Huddersfield, both about 5 miles away and with a broad spectrum of eateries to choose from. Potter in interesting shops in either historic town too; visit museums and art galleries; find leisure facilities to keep you busy on rainy days. Also worth a visit while you are in the area, is Holmfirth, 4 miles away, which may well be familiar to you as it often used to feature in scenes in the TV series Last of the Summer Wine.

Halifax is a thriving market town and was once the centre of the wool trade in Victorian England, which blessed the town with wealth and good fortune. Many of the opulent buildings and monuments from this time can still be seen as you walk around the town, including Piece Hall, a magnificent Georgian building, which was once the place where weavers sold their cloth. Nowadays, it’s a fabulous place to grab a tasty bite to eat or peruse the independent shops and boutiques, as well as catch some outdoor performances.

Other impressive buildings include Halifax Minster, the town’s gothic church; the Grade II-listed Halifax Town Hall, created by the same man who designed the Houses of Parliament; and Shibden Hall, a 15th-century historic home surrounded by a glorious park, once home to the ‘first modern lesbian’, Anne Lister, who wrote her secret diaries there. The parkland is an excellent place to spend a day, where you can walk beside the pretty flowerbeds, row across the Mere or ride on the miniature train which will delight any children in your party. Kids will also love Eureka! The National Children’s Museum, which is sure to capture their imaginations with its 400 interactive exhibits.

If you enjoy food, make sure to visit Halifax’s Borough Market, which is a stunning Grade II-listed building hosting an award-winning covered market throughout the week. Sample some local produce and pick up a selection of tasty treats to enjoy back at your holiday home and to help you prepare some traditional Yorkshire fare.

A small but comfortable and well-equipped apartment with stunning views from the south-facing lounge and bedroom windows. The rooms are above the popular Travellers Rest real-ale pub, but surprisingly little noise from the bar & beer garden carried upstairs even at the busiest times. This was our second visit to the cottage, we even had the same room, the last visit we had a storm, this time we had lots of snow. The view from the window was breathtaking, we couldn't venture out too far because of the weather, but we really enjoyed our break away. We would like to thank everyone for there kindness.

We had a wonderful time. The apartment was well laid out & decorated to a very high standard. A real home from home. The views are incredible. The little touches such as the milk in the fridge, coffee & tea, & especially the chocolate biscuits were very much appreciated. We would not hesitate to recommend & will definitely be back. Thanks for a great weekend. Hide

We were warmly welcomed from the bar staff, when obtaining the keys to the apartment. The apartment was spotlessly clean, modern interior with everything we needed for our short break.
