Make your romantic retreat to this gorgeous, stone holiday home in the village of Cowling, in North Yorkshire. A heavenly haven for two, the beautifully finished, one-bedroom cottage is surrounded by glorious countryside and captures far-reaching, rural vistas. Nestled within the grounds of a traditional farmhouse, it enjoys a tranquil setting and benefits from its own private garden where guests can soak up the serenity after busy days out in the area.

Tear yourselves away from the picturesque views to enter this airy property, with its high vaulted ceilings and skylights. Offering a modern form of barn-style living, it has been carefully designed to offer a beautiful blend of elegance and comfort for your time away. There are also a few extra-special touches to make you feel right at home, as well as picture windows where you can lose yourselves in the views for hours on end.

Enter via the reception hall, which offers room for your outerwear and walking gear, then wander on through into the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. Very much the heart of this inviting home, this is where you can unwind together after energetic days out in your Yorkshire surroundings. Light the wood burner then settle down to find a tempting film on the Smart TV or even an episode or two of your favourite programme. Wander over to the stylish kitchen area to make a cup of coffee or to pour a glass of chilled wine to enjoy before you start to prepare supper. Cook something tasty then dine together at the table and chat about your plans for the following day.

As night falls, head to the sumptuous king-size bedroom, which makes the most of the scenic green setting with its outlook in the direction of Cowling Pinnacle and Lund’s Tower. Take a shower the following morning before stepping out into the fresh country air.

Relax out in the cottage’s garden as much as possible. Fire up the BBQ out here on warm evenings and gaze out across the fields. Watch the chickens ambling about in their run next to the garden. There is parking for one car with this cottage.

Ideal for those who enjoy walking, hiking and cycling, the charming abode provides access to a plethora of scenic footpaths, including the Pennine Way, which runs close by and offers a 270-mile-long route. Cowling is also just 5.5 miles from the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Other beauty spots in the area include the Forest of Bowland, approximately 9.5 miles away. Just 7 miles from Haworth, famous, of course for its connections to the Bronte sisters, Cowling is also well positioned for visits to the market town of Skipton, known as the Gateway to the Dales. Closer to home, there are local amenities in the village itself.

Cowling is also in an excellent position for visiting Halifax. This thriving market town is approximately 6.5 miles from the village and was once the centre of the wool trade in Victorian England, which blessed the town with wealth and good fortune. Many of the opulent buildings and monuments from this time can still be seen as you walk around the town, including Piece Hall, a magnificent Georgian building, which was once the place where weavers sold their cloth. Nowadays, it’s a fabulous place to grab a tasty bite to eat or peruse the independent shops and boutiques, as well as catch some outdoor performances.

Other impressive buildings include Halifax Minster, the town’s gothic church; the Grade II-listed Halifax Town Hall, created by the same man who designed the Houses of Parliament; and Shibden Hall, a 15th-century historic home surrounded by a glorious park, once home to the ‘first modern lesbian’, Anne Lister, who wrote her secret diaries there. The parkland is an excellent place to spend a day, where you can walk beside the pretty flowerbeds, row across the Mere or ride on the miniature train which will delight any children in your party. Kids will also love Eureka! The National Children’s Museum, which is sure to capture their imaginations with its 400 interactive exhibits.

If you enjoy food, make sure to visit Halifax’s Borough Market, which is a stunning Grade II-listed building hosting an award-winning covered market throughout the week. Sample some local produce and pick up a tasty treat to enjoy back at your holiday cottage.
