Immerse yourselves in the spectacular beauty of the Yorkshire Dales National Park when you stay at this handsome stone barn, surrounded by spellbinding scenery. Nestled on the fringes of Oughtershaw, a North Yorkshire hamlet approximately 13.5 miles from Aysgarth, it is also well-positioned for reaching the market town of Hawes, 6 miles away, and is ideal for anyone who enjoys walking or cycling. Wake up to far-reaching views out over the undulating countryside then head off on long hikes, attempting, perhaps, a stretch of the Dales Way, which runs close by. Up to four guests are welcome to stay at the two-bedroom property, making it ideal for a family break or two couples keen to retreat to this picturesque corner of Yorkshire together.

Tear yourselves away from the views and make your way into the beautifully converted country property. Find accommodation here that melds traditional elements, such as exposed stonework, with sleek contemporary features. Head into the hall, where there is space for shoes and jackets, before putting the kettle on, lighting the wood burner in the lounge and settling down to enjoying some quality time away together. Choose a film to watch on the Smart TV in here; enjoy a few pages of your holiday novel and pull open the doors onto the terrace on fine days.

As mealtimes beckon, decide whose turn it is to prepare a tasty treat with delicious, ingredients found on your forays out into the towns and villages of the Yorkshire Dales. The stylish kitchen, with its white marble surfaces, has all the extra touches required to make your stay just that little bit more special. Keep your food fresh in the American-style fridge/freezer; chill your wine in the cooler and make steaming cups of coffee in the Dolce Gusto machine. Dine in here as you gaze out at your glorious surroundings or pull open the bifold doors and serve up in the fresh air against the scenic backdrop. Also at ground-floor level are a utility room, with a handy washing machine and tumble dryer, and a shower room with a WC.

Head on up to the first floor at the end of each magical day. Both inviting bedrooms are up here and are filled with natural light: wake up to the beauty of your surroundings from either a double bedroom or a twin room. A bathroom, featuring a bath with a shower above and a WC, is also on the first floor.

Savour the ease of both indoor and outdoor living at this unique holiday home. As often as possible, amble out onto the wrap-around terrace to soak up the serenity, along with the sweeping Yorkshire vistas. Fire up the BBQ and sizzle supper in the open on fine days. Have a last glass of wine out here as the sun goes down. There is a shed for your bikes and other outdoor gear here, as well as off-road parking for three cars. Please note: this holiday home has its own water supply.

The tranquil hamlet of Oughtershaw is in a great location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales. From here, pick up the Dales Way – this is an 80-mile, long-distance footpath, which runs from Ilkley, in West Yorkshire, to Bowness-on-Windermere, in Cumbria. Try following a 15-mile stretch to pretty Dent, with its cobbled streets. As you walk, absorb the verdant landscape against which many of the scenes from the famous country vet TV series, All Creatures Great and Small, was filmed.

Oughtershaw is approximately 6 miles from Hawes, a delightful Wensleydale market town, where you can potter for a time; shop for local produce, dine out in a country inn or take refreshment in a friendly tearoom. Aysgarth, also in Wensleydale, is 13.5 miles away. This scenic village is home to the Aysgarth Falls, which were featured in the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves! The village also boasts many great options for eating out, including popular pubs and cute cafes.

If you visit in spring, you must also be sure to spend time at Freeholders’ Wood, 15 miles away, where bluebells, anemones and primroses will be in full bloom. The stunning landscape of Wensleydale includes 25 miles of lush valleys, criss-crossed with the area’s iconic dry-stone walls. If you enjoy walking and countryside views, you will not be short of things to do, with Wensleydale providing delightful moorland, dale-side and valley walks. Wensleydale is also sandwiched between Wharfedale and Swaledale if you fancy exploring further afield.

Spend the day exploring this picturesque paradise then visit another Yorkshire village, such as Buckden, 6 miles from Oughtershaw, Kettlewell, 9.5 miles away, or scenic Grassington, 16 miles away, in Upper Wharfedale. Wander the cobbled streets of stone buildings here, join in one of the many annual events and festivals that take place in the village and enjoy the views.

This exquisitely converted barn is situated in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales on the route of the Dale Way. Fabulous cottage and one of the best we have ever stayed in. The fixtures and fittings are all 1st class, nicely matching and spotlessly clean. Pretty much everything has been thought of and provided to make it a real home from home. Cottage is nicely placed for walks round Buckden/Kettlewell and also Rubblehead/Horton.
