This beautifully presented two-bedroom cottage with country charm enjoys a quiet spot at the edge of the North York Moors National Park with easy access to the Yorkshire coast.

Nestled in a peaceful village setting just 8.5 miles from the rugged Yorkshire coastline, this bijou retreat is a must for couples and small families alike. The chocolate-box appeal of Brompton-by-Sawdon is heightened further by the scattering of stone cottages, quintessential shops and a choice of pubs, and your accommodation aims to please in a similar fashion. Climb the steps and head through the wrought-iron railings, pausing to reflect at the pretty bistro-style table and chairs before discarding your coats and shoes in the handy porch. There’s a downstairs WC here too, no doubt a longed-for sight after a lengthy journey!

Shrug off your stresses ready to rejuvenate with a soothing glass of red and a quick rummage through your welcome pack. Follow the hallway to discover the hub of the home, a spacious open-plan haven styled with tasteful decor, chic furniture and cosy soft furnishings. Of an evening, the lounge area provides comfort in abundance, whether you are snuggling under a blanket with your hot cocoa and a family film on the TV, or basking in the glow of the electric fire and listening to your favourite tunes with the one you love.

Enjoy coffee and croissants around the table as natural light pours through the dual-aspect windows, sampling local jams and creamy butter. You could even set the children up with their cereal and juice and retreat to the quirky sunroom for breakfast in peace, dallying over the morning papers and planning your day over idle chatter. The wicker chairs are very comfortable, and it is a sheer treat to sit and look out into the courtyard dazzled by the morning sunshine.

The bright kitchen is finished in a country-cottage style with a decidedly contemporary twist, offering everything you could possibly need to cook up a storm. There is an electric oven and gas hob, fridge and dishwasher for all your culinary needs, and you’ll also have a useful utility room with a washing machine and an additional fridge/freezer and microwave at your disposal. Whip up decadent dinners, return from the coast with fish and chips to share, or fire up the BBQ and sizzle up a special supper in the courtyard garden. The hot tub is a wonderful spot to round off the day, especially if you have uncorked a bottle of something fizzing and delicious to savour at sunset. There’s secure bike storage for peace of mind after your daytime adventures, and on-street parking is directly outside the property.

Thoroughly sated and ready for slumber, the first floor reveals two bedrooms that are both crisply dressed and thoughtfully decorated. Tuck the children up in bed in the bunk room, a simple yet cosy room that’s ideal for sleepovers. Meanwhile, the gorgeous king-size bedroom boasts a sumptuous bed and ample storage space for all your things. Before retiring for the night, you’ll relish a pamper in the bathroom thanks to the large shower over the bath.

The property has a fabulous location on the cusp of the Yorkshire coast, with all of the delights of Scarborough close by, including its gorgeous sandy beaches, cafes and restaurants just an 8.5-mile drive away.

Make your way through the historic streets to explore Scarborough Castle or pop into St Marys churchyard to visit Anne Brontes grave. Enjoy a stroll around the South Cliff area taking in the famous spa and Italian Gardens. Catch the cliff lift down to the beach and walk around to the peaceful North Bay, visit the renowned Sea Life Centre or explore the beautiful Peasholm Park with its boating lake, woodland walks and oriental influences.

The old railway line which ran from Scarborough to Whitby is now a stunning cycle and walking route and is the perfect choice if you feel like a coastal walk taking in some spectacular scenery. You are also perfectly placed to take in the best of the North York Moors, Yorkshire coast and York.

Sitting at the eastern foot of the North York Moors, the regions dramatic landscape of heather and open moorland is just a short drive away. Somewhat smaller than the Yorkshire Dales, the North York Moors still cover an area of almost 600 square miles and, like the Dales, you can easily find yourself miles from anywhere relatively quickly. But there is something distinctly more civilised and less remote about the moors. In place of harsh limestone and dramatic peaks, youll find gently rolling hills of heather, ancient woodland and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. There is a sense of wilderness, particularly on top of the high central moorlands, but it’s cast in comforting soft focus.

The rest of the Yorkshire coast is also close by. Much like its Cornish counterpart, the North Yorkshire coastline is a heady mix of rugged cliff tops, peaceful bays and pretty fishing villages. With long sandy beaches and all the traditional seaside trimmings of yesteryear, this is proper bucket and spade territory. Thats not to say its stuck in the past; in fact, the coasts villages and towns combine the traditional with the contemporary effortlessly, with trinket shops and tearooms sitting alongside upmarket champagne and oyster bars.

This region is best known for the gorgeously gothic town of Whitby (27.5 miles). Playing host at one time to Romans, Saxons, Celts and Danes amongst others, the towns rich heritage is immediately obvious. Straddling the River Esk and dominated by the 13th-century ruins of St Hildas Abbey on the East Cliff, Whitbys crooked cobbled streets and picturesque harbour have been a magnet for artists and tourists alike for centuries. Robin Hoods Bay (22.5 miles) and Sandsend (28.5 miles) are also worth a visit, each with their own unique charm.

The cottage was gorgeous - beautiful inside and out, comfortably furnished and didnt take long to feel like home. This is a lovely, comfortable, and bright cottage in a the wonderful and friendly village of Brompton. It was well equipped, spotlessly clean, and very nice just to hang around in. Also very peaceful, with great walks on the doorstop, not to mention the wonderful butchers (which also sells bread, wine etc.) and the wine shop/bar up the road.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the old chapel. I do t think we would change anything about the cottage, it catered for all of our needs and the kids loved the use of the hot tub. The area itself has many great places to visit within an hour or less. Our list of places included Goathland, with the beautiful mallyann spout waterfall and the villagRead moree itself. The village of Helmsley, the castle and nearby abbey were worth a visit. Whitby, Scarborough are local. We highly recommend this cottage. Hide
