If you’re looking for a dog-friendly property but would rather not compromise on style, you are in for a treat with this tastefully renovated cottage 8 miles from Richmond. Find dog walks in abundance through the beautiful rolling countryside in this area of North Yorkshire, which is dotted with farm shops, quaint villages and friendly pubs. Afterwards, return to base for a stroll through the estate before snuggling up beside the fire or sinking into the private wood-fired hot tub in the garden.

Set within a family estate, the cottage enjoys a peaceful and private location, a world away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Meticulously finished with close attention to detail both inside and out, this is a wonderful rural retreat for families or friends at any time of year. If you are bringing a four-legged friend or two, you will be pleased to find a handy utility room, ideal for drying off wet coats, boots and paws after long walks in the countryside. Stepping into the kitchen/diner, you will discover cool and contemporary decor, a light and airy feel, and elegant finishing touches. While the chef of the group whips up a delicious feast of fresh produce from the local farm shop, fellow guests can enjoy a glass of wine on the barstools at the breakfast bar. With rich tones, oak worktops and antique brass handles and lighting, you might find yourselves arguing over who gets to cook the next meal. Once prepared, dine at the round table beneath the stylish pendant light before retiring to the cosy lounge for the evening. With a wood burner set into an original fireplace, a choice of plump and inviting sofas and warm decor, this is just the place to warm up after a long day outside. Meanwhile, the sunny conservatory with rattan furniture and wonderful views is the perfect spot for enjoying a cup of coffee or getting lost in a good book.

When the day is done, choose between the two beautifully furnished bedrooms. Both finished in restful hues and adorned with luxury linens, there is no need to argue over the two rooms. The super-king-size bedroom boasts a stunning en-suite bathroom, beautifully tiled with a roll-top bath, his and hers sinks and a fabulous walk-in shower. Meanwhile, the king-size bedroom also benefits from its own en-suite shower room, so there will be no queues in the mornings.

Thoughtful touches and a feeling of space continue outside to this property’s fabulous garden. Dog-friendly through and through, find an extensive lawn garden full of interesting smells and a special outdoor shower for hosing off muddy paws after walks. On balmy evenings, dine alfresco on the patio or indulge in a long soak in the wood-fired hot tub while admiring the stunning rural views. Beyond the garden lies acres of private land just waiting to be explored. Follow a footpath through magical woodland and down to a peaceful lake - the perfect spot to enjoy a romantic picnic or an hour on your own with your book. Off-road parking is provided for two cars.

Surrounded by rolling countryside and beautiful villages, this is a wonderful escape from the everyday. Perched between the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors, you are ideally located for making the most of this county’s spectacular scenery and fantastic walking routes. When you’re not hiking the heather-clad hills, browse the local farm shops or treat yourselves to a hearty meal out in one of the nearby country inns.

Just 8 miles away, Richmond is a charming market town on the borders of Wensleydale and Swaledale. It boasts an 11th-century castle, fine Georgian architecture, a historic Georgian theatre and a large cobbled market square as some of its many attractions. Stroll into town for a cup of Yorkshire tea at one of the many tearooms there or pop over for dinner at one of the excellent restaurants.

The gorgeous River Swale runs through the town and, across the river - less than a mile - are the River Swale Waterfalls. You can walk in either direction along the river and deep into the countryside without having to go anywhere near the car. We also recommend exploring the restored former Richmond Railway Station which has lots to entertain young and old including a small cinema, cafe/restaurant, gallery, microbrewery and artisan bakery.

Richmond is also known as 'The Gateway to the Dales' so expect stunning Dales’ scenery within minutes of leaving the town. Peppering this glorious countryside are countless attractive little towns and villages and, if you enjoy a bit of surreal entertainment, how about a visit to the quite brilliant Forbidden Corner, an attraction full of statues and hidden surprises, 14 miles away near Middleham.

Meanwhile, just 15 miles to the west, Barnard Castle is a historic market town recently listed as one of the ‘top 10 rural places to live in the UK’. On the fringe of the Yorkshire Dales, there is a host of boutique shops, cafes and pubs to explore. The excellent Bowes Museum is here and is well worth a visit, and, as the name would suggest, there's an English Heritage castle to discover, too.

A pretty estate that is quiet and great for the dogs. House is comfortable and cozy, especially in the evening. It's a 25 min pleasant walk to the local pub. Take a torch as it is dark at night.
